Mep 804a starts at 60hz then drops to 50hz

I purchased a unit with 20 hours on the clock last year after hurricane Michael. For the most part it ran fine for all of 320+ hours. A couple of times I noticed it would drop to 50hz for awhile but it only happened a day or two.
I start and run the unit once a month for a couple hours. Now recently a couple minuets after start up it will drop from 60 to 50hz and just stay there until I restart the machine.
Suggestions anyone?

I would start with the frequency select switch.

17. Frequency meter (HERTZ) fluctuates.
TEST OR INSPECTION
Check back of frequency meter (HERTZ) for loose or broken wires.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
If wires are loose or broken, notify next higher maintenance level.

Hey guys, I know I’m a little late jumping in here, but I recently picked up a MEP‑804A and ran into the same headache for months. Swapped relays around, even found one with a bad set of contacts, but that didn’t fix the issue.

I finally started thinking it might be vibration-related, so I pulled the Woodward controller, popped the cover off, and sure enough — found a few cold solder joints. Cleaned them up, resoldered, and dropped the board back in.

First start after that, it immediately went into overspeed and slammed the Hz meter at 60. Switched over to 50 Hz (shutdown first, never switch while the Gen is running) and it didn’t overspeed, but the frequency was way off on the high side. After some fiddling with adjustments, I was able to dial it in at 60 Hz, and so far it’s been running solid without dropping back to 50.

Fingers crossed it stays happy at 60 Hz!

theres many stories online about that little red switch at the back of many computer psu (generally from the 1980-2000's era) and umm yeah lets just say that you don't want to know what sort of magic smoke these kind of stories always comes out to .. worser in europe/alike because hmm yeah I don't have to explain what happens when you double the voltage the downstream circuits were expecting

anyway I'll say no more *points at genset* lets talk about that (heh)
