Replacing hood side stops on M1097A2- how do I access the backing nuts?

The left and right side hood stops on my M1097A2 are brittle and the driver's side completely disintegrated. I thought no issues and just ordered a couple OEM ones from HPG but I cannot figure out how to access the backing nuts, at least on the driver's side. I only had a couple mins and ran out of time before I had to grab the kiddos from school and thought "no problem, I'll just look it up in the TM when I get home" But no, the -20-3 doesn't help. It highlights the passenger side but I assume it's the same issue to get to the nuts on that side too. What am I missing?

I had the same problem. You really have to get your hand up the inside of the fender and feel around to find them and then put a tool on them. Best to have someone else remove the bolt from the outside while you hold the lock nuts from inside.

I used an old napa open end wrench that had a swivel socket on the opposite end.

Just to be clear you access them from inside the cab, take the doors off and put one hand on the outside bolt then just find that hand from the inside with the other, kinda like touching your nose with your eyes closed..,..

Inside the Cab you can get a wrench on them, have to remove a door if you have one and just use an impact driver or an electric ratchet to remove them, I went back with some Rivenuts and button head screws.
