    12 volt slave cable port?

I just checked out the Phoenix USA booster cable system from Northern tool. $189.00 for 30 feet of #4 cable? Im not Thomas Edison, but isn't that a bit long for such a light guage cable? A bit pricy also. I just ordered two sets of Anderson connectors and plan on converting the 24v slave system...

    Black smoke from defrost vent

Did you disconnect the bateries before welding? Bad grounds and old wiring can do some not so funny things when welding is is done with the batteries connected. I blew out every single lightbulb on a garbage truck this way many years ago. Just a thought.

    gp info.

I have a manual GP setup on mine, but depending on how cold it is the cycle times are guesswork. 10 seconds, sputter, cough and 5 more seconds of heat usually gets it running in 20 degree temps, but sometimes i'll have to repeat the same heat times again. If the truck sits for a few days, thats...

CUCV extended crew cab 2 ton build?

Yup, awesome build! The grill really finishes off the look of that truck.

    Damaged CUCV Rebuild

Oh, Ok. If you had success with the VW, you should have no problem with this repair. The extreme curves of the WV are hard to match up. I found out early on that welding two hunks of steel togeather, and welding sheet metal are totally different. I really made a mess of my first rocker panel...

    Damaged CUCV Rebuild

Not to question your ability but i'll have to agree with rick on this one. unless you have exelent sheetmetal skills, I would cut the roof off the donor truck at least 4in below the spot welded seams where the top meets the windshield and door posts. that way you can surgicly remove the inner...

    Glow Plug Resistor

When my GP controller card sizzled shortly after getting my truck, I went with a manual GP switch, removed the resistor and fed the GP solinoid with 12v from the negitive side of the rear battery as per instructions for this conversion. I used a #4 battery cable, more than enough to feed the GP...

Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

Your buddy must have gone with the zip tied 9/16 wrench and under hood Purple-K mod. LOL. I did the doghead mod before I even put my truck on the road. I was not aware of the runaway starter issue before I came here to SS, but I have seen low voltage cause starter runaways in the past, resulting...

Differences between military and civilian 6.2L engines

Yea swinters, you can never have enough storage space for spare parts, LOL. I pay $70.00 bucks a month for a storage unit for my stuff. The sad back story on this engine is the owner completely restored his 82 civi pickup and was heavilly rear ended by a tri axle dump on a exit ramp that was...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I did some tinkering with the shade tree M1009 today just to pass some time, removing the GP resistor that someone had wired to the 12v conversion and manual GP card bypass. I put 12v to the GP solinoid, gave the plugs 10sec of heat, it coughed once. I gave it another 4sec of heat and it lit...

    Help with Death Shake/Wobble

Well Rick, if this is not a slam, I don't know what is. I do not guess at anything, or lookup answers to members questions on the internet. Don't ever question my experience or acuse me of giving out bad info. I have helped many members here, and if that means looking up a part number for a...

    Help with Death Shake/Wobble

A sway bar reduces the axle flex in trucks with leaf spring front suspension, and reduces side to side movement of the axle. Some serious off roaders remove it to increase axle travel/flex. Torsion bars repace leaf and coil springs in most if not all 1988-up independent front suspension four...

Differences between military and civilian 6.2L engines

I have one that I found at a friends junkyard with 75K on a rebuild. I paid $500.00 for it complete with harness and not a bolt or nut missing. I guess I got a good deal. It's a C code though, but I took it anyway.

    Got a rattle....

Check the power steering pump bracket. The top adjusting tab snaps, then the rest of the bolts start to back out. I know it's on the left side of the engine, but with all the racket a 6.2 makes it's sometimes hard to tell where noises are coming from.

Differences between military and civilian 6.2L engines

This is true, and as you probably already know, your 82 GMC 6.2 is a "red block" engine, and was cast with a higher nickle content, as confermed at www.TheDieselPage.com. These engines were less prone to cracking and crank failure. There is an interesting article at www.DieselPowerMag.com...

Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

Really? No kidding? I don't have to wait for anything, I bypassed the GP card. Never once did I discredit CUCV Electric. They have great products. The original style relay, improved or not, is unreliable. It's a relay, not a solinoid. RELAX!
