    923 Harsh Shift from 1st to 2nd

I had the opposite problem: trans would refuse to shift out of 1st gear into 2nd when I bought truck and weather was cold; it would shift at 2,200 rpm and only b/c I was nearly flooring the throttle. And it would be a hard shift, like being slapped in the back by a bully when you were in 3rd...

    5 ton just clicks??

It did start after I reconnected the batteries. So I'm not sure if it was indeed a battery discharge issue or something else that cured itself or failed to not work the next time around. I only started/drove the truck a couple times since and starting was never a problem thereafter.

PA - Spring 2014 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

My sentiments exactly, first timer and all. My 11 year old was huffing and puffing about how we conquered the world in the rain. But what's truly impacted me is that our MV are scandalously unreliable. My power steering went out b/c of a leaking hydraulic cylinder, and seems like everyone had...

    M931a2 wont turn over

Rockwell, can you explain this some more? I think I might have done something last time I drove my 923a2, but I'm still learning what to do and afraid I just got another school of hard knocks lesson. The main power is the battery cut off switch? and starter switch power is the starter switch? So...

    5 ton just clicks??

Bump... My truck wasn't starting after sitting 2 days. I left my turn signal in Left position and first thought this drained the batteries. Which I thought was odd, since main battery switch was off and I figured this would disconnect all power and prevent draining. Past 3 days I've been...

Thanks Mikey for your advice. I'm going to treat this as an expedition to the North Pole! Curious, what is "TP"??

PA - Spring 2014 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

Assuming I can fix my non working power steering tomorrow, I will come with my 11 year old son and we will drive in M923a2. Plan to come Friday nite and hopefully can convoy up w/215Dave, etc. My son and I will stay one night and leave Saturday evening. I can bring firewood. If anyone can...

PA - Spring 2014 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

Anyone going through or from Bucks County PA? I am nervous rolling alone for 100 miles, my longest ride so far in my truck was 5 miles and I've only had 15-20 total miles under my belt since getting her. So convoying would definitely increase my comfort level deciding to go.

PA - Spring 2014 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

Sounds interesting... I have absolutely no camping gear, other than a 2 person kids tent for sleeping on sod in back yard. So I'm a bit nervous taking this plunge! Will decide in next few days, once I know the kids' sports schedules...

    PA - Military vehicle registration....

This is just like my experience! PennDOT people on the phone (after 3 transfers) told me I needed to file form DL-901, Don Commercial Drivers License Application to Change, check the box in section B that says "add/extend" and write "Class B, Non CDL" on the line adjacent to "other". When I got...

    PA - Military vehicle registration....

Correct -- the top form says, "When driving with a learner's permit you must be accompanied by a driver who is at least 21 years of age or spouse 18 years of age who has a valid driver's license for the class of vehicle you are driving. The person must sit in the seat beside you." I even asked...

PA - Spring 2014 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

Is this event suitable for kids (9 year old daughter, 11 and 14 year old boys)? Not sure what kind of stories are told by bunch of hard drinking military guys sitting by a camp fire! I doubt I could convince the wife to go, her idea of camping requires a Marriott

    PA - Military vehicle registration....

I have now spent countless hours chasing this down, including going to PennDOT license center in Bensalem and talking to pretty much everyone there. Per Joe at Bensalem PennDOT -- one of the guys that conducts CDL tests, I had to get a CDL b/c the 5 ton has airbrakes. His colleague, Tom, bought...

    M923A2 Won't Stop Building Air

Thank you, that is very helpful. When it gets warmer, I will take her on the road and do some diagnosis.

    Building a Tank??

Is it possible to find an old Soviet tank and buy it for scrap and a few bottles of Smirnoff? I can't imagine it makes sense to build a tank, unless your time is worthless (or valueless) OR you simply enjoy doing this kind of "work" so much that rational/economic calculus is irrelevant. I am...

M925A2 Cold Start Test and Result, -11F (Michigan 1/6/14), Cummins 8.3L

Since the temp inside the truck is pretty much the same as outside, why oh why would you want to drive these pups at -11?? Too much punishment for me :)

    M923A2 Won't Stop Building Air

So if you drive at 35 mph constant speed, no brake use, it's normal to get blow off periodically, b/c the compressor continues to pressurize the system??? Why would compressor keep working, so extra air must be blown off to prevent overpressurizing system? Why wouldn't the compressor cycle on...
