Any old M113A1 mechanics out there? Just curious about a bus engine that might fit..

Smoke coming out of the intake is what happens when the quill shaft is broken. What also causes the quill shaft to break, most often was; during cold weather start-up you needed to disconnect the transfer case to make it easier for the engine to turn over. When you disconnect the engine it has...

Any old M113A1 mechanics out there? Just curious about a bus engine that might fit..

I suppose it would have been possible for them to have gotten ahold of a 6V53 with larger injectors. The 6v53T would not have fit because the fan tower is directly over the engine where the turbo would need to be, also the exhaust system would have needed to be built from scratch.

Any old M113A1 mechanics out there? Just curious about a bus engine that might fit..

The M113 had a Chrysler 318 gas engine. M113A1 and A2 both had the 6v53's The M113A3 had the 6v53T and the cross drive transmission. I don't know what the HP ratings where but I am pretty sure that they were not even close to 300hp.

That is an M113A3 power pack. I have the least amount of experience with the A3 (too new) but they were a 6v53T.

    M50 Series Brush Truck Conversions

After closer examination of the pics., You are correct! I was seeing that intake bonnet sticking up and thought it was an 800 series air filter. I'm pretty sure that the M54 just had a turned down intake elbow point down towards the fender. The windshield is definitely not an 800 series...

    M50 Series Brush Truck Conversions

The truck in the build pics appear to be an M813. At least the air filter is from an M813. The M54 series did not have the intake bonnet on the top like that.

    M813 with full Air Brakes

I always used to say that if they made a 800 series 5 ton with the 900 series air brakes it would be the "cats meow"! Well, I found that truck (several) in Iraq in 1991. Evidently the US sold the Iraqi's trucks made like that. I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen one in the US?

    Deuce brake question

Didn't mean to sound as though I was lecturing, just trying to pass on my experiences and answer your question. I think that if there is an upgrade for a deuce, and you thought it is important to spend that kind of dough, you would be better off buying a 900 series 5 ton that has full air brakes.

    Deuce brake question

I don't know what the grapevine is, but I'm guessing it's a hill. If your not going to load it and you have commonsense, you shouldn't have trouble. I've driven loaded deuces thousands of miles in Germany, up and down hills. Most of the time the brakes will start to lock up and over heat if...

    Deuce brake question

I'm not sure about an upgrade. They have an air over hydraulic system. The master cylinder provides brake fluid pressure to the "hydrovac", which uses air pressure to add pressure to the brake fluid to push the wheel cylinders to apply the brake shoes. I am also new here and have not worked...

    Maintenance Contact Truck

Now that makes sense. I vaguely remember taking one off of a M880 series truck and putting it on a (I'm guessing) a M1028. Thanks!

    Maintenance Contact Truck

By reading the rules, I don't think i'm violating them by saying, the truck i'm questioning is on the big Government Auction website, if you want to see what i'm talking about.

    Maintenance Contact Truck

No it can't be just a filler panel because the door extends down also.

    Maintenance Contact Truck

New Guy here, I'm going to buy a M1031 Contact truck. I've been searching the web for info. Does anyone know why some of the bodies have the front compartment taller than others? Most of them I see have the front compartment short enough that you can see the fuel tank. I have seen a couple...
