To answer a few of your questions. At this point the truck uses first overdrive only, my speed is limited by tire balance.
I will fix that in the future. I have only done a transmission relearn at this time, the shift points are now very good.
The harsh first shift is gone. I have an...
My tire balance is the limiting factor for now. Might do a land speed record attempt for m1078. NO just kidding….
Im looking for fuel mileage, drivability, and noise reduction. I think I’ve got all three.
I’m not too familiar with the 6.2, however it may have a fuel solenoid. If it does they have two windings inside them one to pull in
and one to hold. If the hold wiring is bad or if you have a bad hold coil inside the solenoid It would act that way.
I know I’m going to get flamed, but here we go. PLEASE DO NOT ASK ABOUT PURCHASING ACCEPT THRU PM.
I just finished an up grade to my 1078. DELEATED the hub 2:1 gear reduction. I built direct drive hubs that can be
installed in 20 to 30 minutes per wheel. Doesn’t harm the original...
I’m Confused?? I don’t disagree that balancing a driveline is a good idea. However, why would my driveshafts be going faster???
When you re-gear the engine and driveline slows down for the same road speed….
I didn’t say it was a mistake or am I claiming a new discovery…. Yes I am changing mine. Not 3:07 gears. Will report the good or bad.
Should be done in a week or so.. Wouldn’t it be nice to cruise 60/65 mph @ 1500/1650 rpm?? So much less noise and heat and fuel.
Just my 2 cents,
I believe my m1078 is far from being geared correctly. Last night I tested gps speed and checked engine rpm.
2645 rpm at 61 mph, level grade. Cat recommends for the best balance of performance and fuel mileage
2000 @ 60 with a max cruuse speed of 65. Also a...
This mess was caused by one of the past military mechanics, I can’t take credit for it. I was simply pulling an axle and a washer was
between the end of the axle and the outer hub. Pulled the hub and found the problem. The outer gear would probably be ok, (light pitting thru the hardened...
Guess what happens when someone puts the outer needle bearing washer on the wrong side of the needle bearing?
Makes a mess! At least I found where the metal shavings on the magnet came from. Looking for some parts,
posted in the wanted section. :(
I’m running the oil that was in it, so probably 15/40 yes. Haven’t done a relearn yet. Temps here in the 30’s 40’s. I does sit inside
and it’s usually 60 or so. I only shifts hard on the first few shifts, then it’s better and better until you let it set for a few hours.
Not a problem but...
No transmission problems at all, no codes. I had a friend that worked at Allison many years ago and had described the first
learning transmissions. He said when they were new the transmissions would shift very hard until they learned how you drive and
the load on the transmission.
I...
I was wondering if anyone has verified 12 volts to the keep alive memory..
From what I have read it looks to be pins 10 and 70. Or wires 110 & 170. Pink wires?
I haven’t checked my truck yet. Might explain the harsh shifts on start up?
The bags are seem like they are very thick material. Not at all like the flexible original ones. More like a rubber bump
stop that you can fill with air?? I think the thickness and the small diameter are the contributing factors.
Update, after a week of driving all is well. My tires are...
I didn’t research the shocks too much, I knew I wanted to start with a shock designed for cab applications. Heavy construction
(5/8 eyes on both ends) and in the stroke range plus a little. As far as the bags, the description doesn’t list it as internal bump.
However they free stand more...
