    MEP-003a auto start program

Thanks Aaron, I have spoken in the past with SteveH (he actually came to my home to help me with an electrical problem, great guy), but his program as you correctly said is written for a different PLC. Anyone else who has sewerzuk's program, I really would appreciate it... Thanks! Roger

    MEP-003a auto start program

Hi Everyone, I have an MEP-003a that I have been fixing up. I finally figured out how to make a Generac auto transfer switch work with it (pm ne if you want details), and now I am working on the PLC for auto start. To make a very long story short, I had gotten a PLC program from sewerzuk...

    MEP-003a won't crank

So, turns our there were several issues I had to deal with. Fortunately StreveH (a Steel Soldiers member) came over today, and with his expert help I am back up and running. The original starter solenoid had a badly corroded disk and the plastic retaining ring on the solenoid shaft was...

    MEP-003a won't crank

O.K., so I will attempt to resurface the ring - in my "real" job, I am a dentist, so I have the equipment to polish it out. I would consider turning the ring over, and using the "new" side. Has anyone disassembled the plunger to do this?

    MEP-003a won't crank

Thanks, do you guys have a favorite vendor you buy from?

    MEP-003a won't crank

Thanks Jim. I want to get the ebay starter, but am a bit concerned that they are not great. Should I worry, or there they "good enough"?

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

Thanks Steve, The transfer switch has a 220v terminal that connects to the generator, I believe that is the "sense" circuit. i.e, when the plc on the generator doesn't see 220 volts it knows the line it down, then starts the engine. When the engine is producing power, it energizes the 220v...

    MEP-003a won't crank

O.K. so I finally had the time to work on the starter, turns out it is the solenoid - the contact ring is badly pitted all the way around. Does anyone know a source for new solenoids, or should I just buy a new starter on epay?

    MEP-003a won't crank

Thanks guys, I finally got to work on the generator today (darn work always gets in the way!). All of the connections were tight, and no visible problems, so I decided to remove the starter, which I just did, and no I can work on it at the bench. I do think it might be the solenoid as Ray...

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

Thanks for the reply Steve, I will look getting the ASCO 185.

    MEP-003a won't crank

Thanks, I'll try the fixes a bit later today (work always gets in the way!). The solenoid arm does move freely, as a matter of fact it is pulled in when I first try to crank it, but does not freely move back, I'll try to make it move more freely today. Let you know...

    MEP-003a won't crank

Hi everyone. I am having a problem with my genset and need some advice. When I try to start the generator, the heater, primer and panel lights all work, the relays click, but the starter does not crank. My batteries are fully charges, and the cables are tight. The last time the generator was...

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

I guess I was just frustrated at the whole Generac deal. I do have a PLC, and will work on the switch asap. Thanks again to everyone, and have a great weekend! Roger

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

Thank you DieselAddict, that's just what I was looking for. Now I can figure out the connections! Unfortunately, I did not have a say in what transfer switch they installed, otherwise I would have gone to a much more generic (NOT Generac) "diesel friendly" switch. Depending on it's...

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

Thanks everyone, sorry for the delay, but I lost my internet for a few days. The transfer switch I have is a new one, model # RTSX200A3. I am comfortable reading electrical schematics and working with high voltage (I am a long time ham radio operator), so all I need is the print, and I'll be...

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

Hi everyone, I didn't really know where to post this thread, so if it's in the wrong place mods, please move it. I recently bought a house that had a new Generac 200 amp transfer switch. I would like to connect my MEP-003a to it for automatic load transfer control, but don't have a detailed...

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

I decided to homebrew, after so many years as a ham radio operator, it would be a "sin" to buy a prepackaged controller! I'm using a Teco SG2 PLC, and have already written the program with the help and guidance of Sewerzuk.
