    MEP 002 no start

Another issue I noticed... As I was reading the manuals, it looks like my injector pump shims were replaces by some sort of calibrated washers. Is there a way to figure out the correct shim size?

    MEP 002 no start

I feel like the compression must be decent, as there is good compressive resistance to turning the blower wheel by hand, as well as cranking with the starter. the injectors are soaking in a kerosene bath overnight, we'll see if I can get the heat sinks off sometime tomorrow. any additional...

    MEP 002 no start

I haven't compression tested a Diesel engine before, only gasoline. I imagine this can be done through the injector port. What compression range am I looking for, and is there a decent testing kit you can recommend?

Here's what the injectors look like. Tips?

    MEP 002 no start

Ok, maybe I'm bleeding the injectors incorrectly. I'm breaking the line from the pump loose where it meets the injector, and then cranking until I see fuel. Is there anything else I need to be doing?

    MEP 002 no start

I'll try and bleed everything out again tomorrow, and if that doesn't do it, I'll pull the injectors and give them a look. Based on what I cleaned out of the tank when I bought this thing, I wouldn't be surprised if they're trashed.

Control lever moves freely. I lifted it manually while cranking to confirm. Pump is new. I confirmed operation by loosening fuel lines and watching fuel spray from lines.

I guess pulling the injectors is my next step.

I am getting tank return, not getting smoke.

    MEP 002 no start

I recently bought a MEP 002 for next to nothing that I knew had a starting problem. After diagnosing a bad injector pump, gimpyrobb was able to source a new good pump for me and I have installed it. I know this pump is sending fuel, but the engine is still not starting up. I'm looking for any...

Ok, so I pulled the cap off the injector pump, and the button that rides on top of the plunger just fell out. It was not retained in any way with the exception of the cap that floats over it. The button has a "1" stamped on the side of it. i imagine is may have been contributing to my issues...

I take it that the pointer is the hole on the side of the flywheel shroud with the little metal arm in it? Which should it point to for timing the injector?

Ok, say I wanted to procure a known good fuel pump, who would have one at a decent price? It would be even better if I could trade them my questionable pump +cash. Work has been crazy, so I have been short on time, so I haven't been able to pull apart the one I have, and I just want to get this...

Ok, the pump is soaking in chemtool and the control lever rotates much more freely. Anything else I need to look for? Im not noticing any timing marks on the flywheel, is tdc going to have to be determined with a dial indicator through and injector port, or is it easier on these?

Thanks for the reminder to use heat. With a minimal amount of fuss and an alarming amount of smoke, the pump is off. Whats the next step?

Ok, looks like the shut down solenoid engages and pulls away from the linkage, so the pump is going to need to be pulled. The steel return line on top of the pump is pretty well seized, so well see if getting it off is going to be a nightmare...

I can hear fuel running back into the tank. I'll pull that line and double check that fuel is making it to the injector pump.

Ok. Batteries are installed and it cranks great, but doesn't start. It does build oil pressure. I pulled one of the lines off the fuel pump and cranked it for a couple seconds, and I'm not seeing any fuel coming from the pump. Next steps?
