I broke my 5 ton this weekend. Help!

I made a few trips to town and bought the tools that I thought were needed, picked up my dual 10KW gen trailer, more beer and food and headed back out into the desert for two days of work. We ended up limping it back . We spent from Friday night to Tuesday night in the desert and drove it 17...

I broke my 5 ton this weekend. Help!

I my defense, this is a 1954 truck. I could probably spend 10K and the next year straight servicing my 5-ton. I put out the biggest fire first and try to atleast drive it every other month in the desert and not much on the streets. My truck is parked at my frinds house in the desert which is 2.5...

I broke my 5 ton this weekend. Help!

I will check with M1075 for those parts. Eriks has them for 90 each and I need atleast four to start.. BTW, you helped me with the tan bed cover on my truck. I think it was you or your buddy I bought it from last year. Thanks a million, that cover is darn near the best part of the 5-ton. Cheers!

I broke my 5 ton this weekend. Help!

I used stainless aircraft cable and clamps in a figure 8 to keep them in place after I put them back where they came from. Same basic idea as you recommend. It's funny, as I was laying there on my back in the desert looking at the mess I had to fix I was thinking to myself, why the heck did they...

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

I talked to Erik today and he has 10 of those torque rod bushings that I tore out of my truck. $90 each for anyone that is thinking about replacing them. Monday/Tuesday I spent about a grand on a new compressor, 3/4" impact, grinder, sockets etc... Sure would have been better to replace those...

This weekend I got stranded in the desert for two days. I was wheeling my 5-Ton and both of the rear axels on the drivers side got tore loose. I am not sure what the parts are called but here are a few pics. If anyone can help identify and help me locate these parts I would be very gratefull!

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

I just spent four nights camping right down the road from Camp Dirtbag and the weather was near perfect. T-Shirt weather half of the nights and w*%d only one night. It was an awsome trip except for tearing the **** out of the rear end of my 5-Ton. I spent two days putting the rear axels and...

5 Ton transmission 3rd gear problem

Well... I guess I can try some of the 30wt then. Maybe that will help that third gear syncro get in and out of gear. Since it seems to have a problem this will either speed up my repair or delay it. Sounds like a 50/50 to me. :cookoo: Any of you guys ever rebuilt the syncros or trans? Is it...

Rain??? I think it's pretty rare that it rains in that area but when it does look out! I was out there about two months ago exactly where Camp Dirt Bag is. 5 Ton transmission 3rd gear problem

So my transmission is not shifting in or out of 3rd gear so well. When the truck is cold it will not shift into 3rd at all and once warmed up 20+ minutes it will shift into 3rd and I can down shift into 3rd but it will often grind. To make matters complicated the transmission shift patern does...
