    Hours

I have been watching the auctions and see a few Mep-0004 and 0005's that have 6,000 to 7,500 hours on them. At this many hours do they still have use left in them or is a total rebuild required? Thanks, Bruce

    Separately Excited

That makes sense as sometimes things are not as explained. I took a good look at the pictures and they look just as the ones I have seen first hand so I think the description is not accurate. Thank you for the replies. Bruce

    Separately Excited

Thank you for the information. The generators are of course the military type and are the 15 kw or 30 kw units, Mep-004A or 005A. They are in the same age range as most I see ( 1982-1986) but are listed as separately excited. But I am guessing from what you said these may be more trouble than...

    Separately Excited

Can someone tell me briefly what is meant by separately excited and exciter included? I am sure it means how the alternator knows when to make power but that is about all I can guess. Is this a reliable method and easy to use or just a big problem? Thank you for any answers. Bruce

Which One is Best, MEP 4 or 5?

Thanks for all the responses. When coverting to single phase I followed the directions of the video on You Tube which was posted by a member (I think) of this group. That person thought the generator would not lose vey much by the conversion and would probably still be 14 kw plus after the...

Which One is Best, MEP 4 or 5?

I have a MEP-005A and was told on this site it may be too much to run one house. I have a chance to trade for a MEP-004A but I am not sure this would run everything. I know military generators are able to handle extra load for quite some time but here is what I would be running. In the summer 4...

    Mep-005a

Do the sets maufactured in 1976 have the same engine and generator as the sets manufactured in the mid 80's. Is there any year that had problems and is a good idea to stay away from? Thanks, Bruce

    Auction Rating

When a generator is listed on an auction site in condition "H" is it a sure thing it is beyond repair or has problems? One is listed as this and has 4.7 hours on it. I read we cannot post about auctions but I am just asking a general question about auction items. If I am in the wrong please let...

Mfr: John r. Hollingsworth. Mdl: Mep-004a.

I bought the above genset in 30 kw. I know it is 3 phase and want to know if it can be converted to single phase 60 hz. If not can I still use it for emergency power for my home when the electric goes out? Thanks, Bruce
