I have been watching the auctions and see a few Mep-0004 and 0005's that have 6,000 to 7,500 hours on them. At this many hours do they still have use left in them or is a total rebuild required? Thanks, Bruce

Thank you for the information. The generators are of course the military type and are the 15 kw or 30 kw units, Mep-004A or 005A. They are in the same age range as most I see ( 1982-1986) but are listed as separately excited. But I am guessing from what you said these may be more trouble than...

Can someone tell me briefly what is meant by separately excited and exciter included? I am sure it means how the alternator knows when to make power but that is about all I can guess. Is this a reliable method and easy to use or just a big problem? Thank you for any answers. Bruce
