mep-002a Brand new head glow plug explodes

It is stamped 24V right on the plug. I guess the glow part its self could have been 12 placed in the wrong threaded stamped body at the factory?

mep-002a Brand new head glow plug explodes

Hello all, I bought two new head glow plugs, Wellman p/n 6A843G042K. On the firtst use one blew up less than 15 seconds after puting voltage to it, I heard a pop; split the tube. The second plug bulbed, I would say pretty bad already. Has anyone else had this experience? Any speculation what in...

    Tips to change head GP

Thanks Robb and all others, nothing like the KISS method, it fits me well. I am glad you did cleare up the part about using heat. I was thinking you all ment to heat the GP and then torque on it right away while hot.

    Tips to change head GP

OK I got it heat is both my friend and the key. Now; do I want to heat till cherry red? Or heat till the GP is say hot but not cherry red? Those sure are some ugly pictures. The replacement plugs are to be delivered Monday. So it looks like Saturday will be the big day. I agree with Jimc also...

    Tips to change head GP

You are correct about proper use of the torque wrench. For an example supose you have something that you know needs to be torqued when put together. There is no manual and you do not know the proper torque. If you record the torque needed to break the bolt free, you then have an idea of what to...

    Tips to change head GP

I have not done anything yet but spray with oil. I sure hope they are not frozen, I do not know for sure. I did read another thread where advice was given to work the plug about a half a turn at a time forward and backward with lots of spray oil. I plan to be as gentle as I can. I would rather...

    Tips to change head GP

Hello to all, I need to change the head GP, on mep-002a. Can anyone please tell me the best method? I am not sure if it would go better with the engine warm or dead cold. I have sprayed some PB blaster on in advance. I sure do not want to break the GP off in the head. I am all ears to tips. One...

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

Munchies you are both a life saver and a genius! I now have comprehenson! Please disregard the previous post. Upon further and closer investagation; I actually get it, and understand the proper princaple of operation. The fact is as you said; the spring 6 does in lift the linkage. The problem I...

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

I do understand what you are saying "The spring #6 yanks on the governor arm and in turn pulls up the linkage connected to the IP." I also understand that this operation would work with a solid shaft from the governer shaft to the ip linkage. Is the part #10 a solid shaft on most units? Or is it...

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

Munchies: Thank you. Where did you get that picture? It is not in the TM on this sight, I did notice it is TS-585-34. That I have fond on here are TM-584-34. OK that spring is in place. Now the difference on the unit I have is part #10 governer linkage. In the above pictur it looks like a solid...

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

I can move the control arm of the ip very easy with my finger. Now about the spring attached to the governer adjustment screw. I am not sure what spring you are fererring to. Do you mean spring #17-page 7-3;-figure7-2;-TM 34? From what I can see; and from limited general experience. It does look...

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

OK I had a chance to check the problem out. The fuel shut off solenoid is lifting. The throtel arm is not lifting. I have not searched the TM yet. I take it that the throtel arm is actually lifted by another solenoid? Munchies listed a few items to check. Sad to say schematics are electrical...

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

gimpyrobb, Where do I get Berryman b12 cleaner? Would the auto parts store have it? I have not heard of that cleaner before. Is it a fuel additive, or an external type of cleaner? Thank you

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

More information: The unit is not shutting down on its own, I am turning it off. The first time I ran the unit for an hour. The next run, a week later was 45 minutes. I thought the shutters were not opening right, they would open a little, not wide open. I pulled the thermal unit and tested it...

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

Ah never gave that one a thought. Could you please tell me, what is the best way to check that? Can I see it just by looking?

mep 002a will not start with a warm engine

Thank you for a rapid response. That thought did come to mind. It could be that I am wrong. When I looked at the schematic it shows the overtemp switch in line with the low oil cut out switch. So I figured just as the unit will start, and run as long as the switch is held in the start position...
