    Converting to dual alternators

I've never heard that and lots of people are doing it. Have you had any problems yet? So far I'm only running a voltmeter on the 12 volt side but I have a winch ready to add on. Besides, if it wouldn't work Rat4Spd - who used to make electricity on a nuke underwater and now does it as a civie...

    Converting to dual alternators

Where's the pics of your set up? Any word on those wheels?

    Converting to dual alternators

I'll be running a cheap harbor freight winch 3-4 times per year to load ATVs, I'm installing a back up camera, maybe some lights and the biggest inverter I can buy for under 200 bucks to run whatever a person can run off of such an inverter. I will probably run a wire so the 12 volt alt can keep...

    Converting to dual alternators

It's Westfolks, but there are several threads on doing it yourself. And they will be tan pretty soon. 8)

    Converting to dual alternators

Please fix the spelling error in your previous post. I like my threads neat and tidy.

    Converting to dual alternators

My head isn't buried in the sand. I did it the way I did because that's the way I wanted it. There are many options for getting 12 and 24 volts on my deuce and I decided this was the best way for me. It's pretty cheap, compared to some other options. It also gives me some protection...

    Converting to dual alternators

And now we know why I keep Rat4Spd on speed dial.

    Converting to dual alternators

What drained the battery? The only thing I have hooked up now is a voltmeter

    Converting to dual alternators

I don't have any advanced degrees - I do have Rat4Spd on speed dial. The REASON that I did not wire the 12 volt alternator to the existing 1st or 2nd battery in the 24 volt system is because I want them independent of each other. COMPLETELY. This way, when I'm at DIRTBAG and I drain the...

Problem spin off oil filter adapter

Problem spin off oil filter adapter

I am very curious as to what might be causing the leaks - no matter which system you're running or which material your adapters are made of. The install video for Westfolk's shows the gasket install and warns that it is easy to install wrong - ie with a bubble or not getting it 100% flat...

    12V / 24V dual voltage alternator on a deuce

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/61104-converting-dual-alternators.html Labor? I didn't keep track of the hours but we didn't hurry. 90% of the work was performed by a 14 year old Soldier B. I included my major costs in the thread, but since there are many...

    Converting to dual alternators

To store the electricity made by the 12 volt alternator. Now I can add any 12 volt goodies that I want. There are other ways to do it - 24 volt inverters, dual output alternators, etc, but I liked this set up the best.

    Converting to dual alternators

I was thinking about a toggle switch. Then I can turn it off if I want. Not sure how much drag it would have though, so maybe a relay is a better idea. Can you use some of that paid internet time and google me up what I need?

Problem spin off oil filter adapter

I heard he switched from steel to aluminum. Maybe he can still do steel if some needs them? Then again, after that one thread went a little south maybe he stopped making them totally. Anyway, I would be interested in hearing if anyone else has problems in extreme cold or heat and how/if they...

Problem spin off oil filter adapter

The ones I got from Westfolk are steel. Not that it will ever get cold enough here for that to be an issue. Not sure if he is still making them in steel, but if it's a concern for you, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

    Converting to dual alternators

So since I have this 2nd electrical system currently powering nothing, I figured I better hook up a gauge to keep tabs on the the nothing its doing. I went to autozone and picked up a cheap Sunpro voltmeter. You know - the ones all the kewl mofos run in their hot rod Pintos. I'll probably...

    Converting to dual alternators

All three batterys fit in the battery box. I'll get a pic later. I have heard three won't fit if you have the newer, plastic box, but I don't know for sure. I have the old, metal type. Of course this assumes you have ditched the worthless 6TLs already.

    Converting to dual alternators

All complete, just finished wiring the 12 volt side. Everything works just as it should and I'm happy with the conversion. Thanks again George!

    Converting to dual alternators

DH - I'll have to let George answer that since I don't have a heater. I like third battery because if I toast it somehow, I still have the main batterys to get me home.
