    I have never broken a 208.... I have snapped a transmission in half that had a 205 hanging off the end of it.     if it is cracked you can weld it but the cases have to be really true. If the shafts are out of alignment it will self destruct. For the price of a used one (50 -150 bucks) just swap it out and save your self some time, money, and the chance of it being bad even after welding it.
