Does anyone know if a fanclutch solenoid from a HMMWV will work for LMTV/FMTV's? I know there'll be some wiring and air line plumbing issues but I just want to know if it can work. Thanks!
No, go back in this thread and it gives the shift sequence. Going from 2 to 3 the converter is unlocked. Then the converter locks while in 3 and is locked when going from 3 to 4. That puts a lot of strain on the 4th clutch pack that could be avoided.
The parts I reference are high...
The transmission is supposed to unlock between 3rd and 4th gear. And thank you for the 4L80E mention. That's a pretty common transmission outside HMMWV applications, I think, so it shouldn't be hard to get those parts!
I just posted this on the G503 site and thought it might be a fitting addition to SS for all those New-to-Me HMMWV owners.
This is one of the circuits in the HMMWV that is probably the most misunderstad because it works backwards from what your common sense tells you. The gold colored valve is...
Do you have any idea where I can get parts? The check sensors light started blinking after I unplugged and cleaned the 2 relays in the evaporator. I can’t find any place to get parts I put my model # in online and nothing comes up.

My guess would be that either one of the switches or the wiring is having some type of issue.
It's not a complicated system, if it's working correctly then:
The manual I linked earlier has a troubleshooting section that, while it isn't specific for the HMMWV, it does cover the basics. Go to...
This is a thermostatic clutch out of an old Cadillac that I adapted to the HMMWV pulley. I cut off the 4 tabs on the front of the pulley and then put a 1" piece of 1/2" conduit into the center to co-locate the 2 pieces. It eliminates the fanclutch nuisance.
Welcome! And you have a pretty rare truck in an M36A3! I think you should start another topic and post pics
The locking transmissions eliminate losses between the engine and transmission through the fluid coupling (torque converter) in 3rd and 4th gear, increasing fuel efficiency. In...
Both are approximately a 10w viscosity with different additive packages. Power stg fluid has anti foam additives and ATF has additives suitable for internal transmission clutches, valves, etc.
A little mixing of both won't be the end of the world.
Different topic, but 5 ton's routinely have...
Thank you again. Do you use Teflon tape on the Cadillac valve connections I’m going to change it tomm? I see nothing happen on a cold start disconnecting the solenoid plug

I got to say "The 2X4 in the fan test is just plain crazy" said that and another word that can't be written LOL. That's why I painted a stripe to clearly see crutch action.
Once one gets a feel for the goings on (proper operation) with the system it will make more sense between lock up and...
I replaced my fan drive switch and time delay and fan still runs at all times. Only thing left is Cadillac valve or fanclutch. I’m at wits end lol

I read many fan issues lately ,actually all the time. Lots of surplus sales, so Guys... I would like to ask, Did you just get this truck? (I see the low post counter)
The cooling system is simple auto shop 101 like any V-8 engine. So now who's big idea was it with the wacky HumV fan control...
Thanks papakb. I have read up about the hissing from the Cadillac valves, but I thought it was strange that the hissing was being affected by the brake pedal.
Makes sense now as a hydro boost connected to power steering! I've owned my hmmwv for about a month and I failed to realize there was no...
Since there is NO vacuum system in the HMMWV it is highly unlikely that you have a vacuum leak!
However, the Kysor Cadillac valve that controls the fanclutch is right there in the same area and hisses all over the place until the system reaches arounf 230 degrees and it shuts off to actuate...
yes yes yes... you guys jump all over crap.. Im not having an issue troubleshooting fanclutch or overheating or anything else. Ive memorized all the 2800 pages of TMs.. And I dont think whacking the metal clutch to un-stick it is in there (Camo :ROFLMAO:) Maybe you have access to the redneck...
