    FARMVEE

The regulator for the alternator can be found in the $500+ price range, and often more. The Orion converter is about $125 all day long on Amazon. Yes, it will work on the rear battery, but not really designed for that large of a load, even intermittently. In this case I'd view the Orion as a...

Are the dip stick accurate on ECV trucks ?

I'll second this. If checked and not running, level will be much higher than when checked with engine in park and engine idling, which is how the manufacturer says to check level.

    FARMVEE

12V can be pulled directly off the rear battery with the dual voltage alternator. Supposedly it's good for up to 50 amps of 12V, but it's not recommended that you pull more than about 20 amps of additional load. If you need more than that, you should wire in an Orion 24-12V 70 amp converter...

    M998 broken spring replacement?

One thing to mention is there are 2 different types of spring mounts for the rear. Most commonly referred to as cast and stamped/welded. Cast are just that, a chunk of cast steel. stamped/Welded are thick sheet metal bent into shape and welded up. The cast use a longer spring than the stamped...

    M1123 Low Power

Runs good at start, then loses power... Could be heat related, and the injection pump needing replaced. I'm not as familiar with with this possible issue, but something to keep in mind if everything else checks out good? As was mentioned before, you can open the fuel filter drain to see if...

    Electric Fan Conversion?

Short answer, not worth it. you won't find any electric fans that move anywhere near as much air as the stock fan. Stock fan is in excess of 10k cfm air moved, and most electric are in the 2k cfm range, so you're talking a lot of fans and having to have room for all of them. I believe it's...

    MKT-99 Kitchen trailer - Batteries & solar

For solar, I had to write up a paper in a class where you were trying to convince a lender to loan you money to install a solar array. For my particular location, I wrote up a paper where I could not justify spending money on solar. Still got full marks. (I'm on the western side of the state)...

HMMWV Brake Fluid DOT 5 HELP!!

Every truck should be DOT 5 if it wasn't equipped with ABS.

Is there a way to run Optima batteries in the HMMWV?

As long as they physically fit in whatever location you want to mount them, and you can secure them. Also, the original 6TM battery was rated around 660CCA, so as long as they are above that you should be okay. I've been told the HMMWV will even start on a pair of lawnmower batteries, but that...

To get my HMMWV (M1097A2) in good running order... need help.

You caught me at the right time. Normally I don't even crawl out of bed for at least another 15 minutes.

To get my HMMWV (M1097A2) in good running order... need help.

rear battery should have a smaller wire for the TCM, and a larger wire going up to the alternator. I'd check there first and see if you have the larger wire and if so where it's going, before trying to start at the alternator only to find the wire dangling somewhere it shouldn't be after trying...

To get my HMMWV (M1097A2) in good running order... need help.

I yes. It's rated for 50 amps so use the appropriate wire size. I was still editing my previous answer when you replied :)

To get my HMMWV (M1097A2) in good running order... need help.

Wire A is the 14V tap that would go the the rear battery. It's typically only installed for trucks with 4 speed transmissions. It does help keep the batteries balanced, so installing a wire there is helpful, but is not required for operation in 3 speed trucks. Seeing as you should have a 4...

    Lenders for HMMWV purchase?

Most likely you will have to do it as a personal loan, and not a vehicle loan through most financial institutions because they don't recognize military surplus as legitimate vehicles.

HMMWV Brake Fluid DOT 5 HELP!!

B-46176 (not 8 ) is mil spec silicone brake fluid. It's difficult to tell the 6 and 8 apart on stamped covers like that.

HMMWV Brake Fluid DOT 5 HELP!!

A complete system flush is always a good idea if there is anything unknown about what fluid is in the system. At that point you can run whichever fluid you want to, though if it were mine I'd try checking at the brake calipers what fluid color comes out first.

    Anyone running 40” tires?

As long as your springs are good, then 40" tires fir with no modification. Not really any size difference between 40" tires and 37" tires running snow chains. If all you do is tires, you're talking less than 2" difference in overall height Interco makes a 39.5" tire for 16.5" rim specifically...

    6.5 vs 6.5td worth it?

depends on which version of truck with the turbo. Post 300000 serial numbers have the sheppard steering box and geared fan drive that are difficult/expensive to repair. Before that I don't think there is a huge difference between most of the truck. I've got a 6.5 non turbo, and it does good...

Fuel gauge issue after changing fuel filter

If you're going through more than a couple tanks a year, then no real need for treatment. As long as you buy clean, dry diesel and don't let it sit for more than 3 or 4 months, you should be fine without treating it. If you're buying and storing diesel longer than a year or so, then I'd start...
