Google the battle damage version , same tm numbers with BD at end, they have some interesting stuff also,...quick test and even welding with bigger units,...
First, do you have a link to volume 2? I'm curious after reading through most of volume 1.
Second, there was some very interesting reading in there relating to several recent threads. What I found most telling were the causes of the MTBF for MEP002A and 003A gensets. Simply put, problem #1...
I accicentally won two lots of 2 -002a's on a M103 trailer out of DE last week. Loaded them up and got them home no problem the hours were 351, 451 on one trailer and 351, 1 on the other with the latter trailer having better looking generators. All of the units had Mfd dates of 1982/3 and all...
Ease of starting depends on many factors, my MEP-002a will fire right up this time of year with no need to pre heat at all, but it did come from GL with a brand new starter installed which probably helps. By comparison my MEP-003a will start without preheating, but chugs and sputters a bit even...
Dependable that is part of the reason when people ask me which surplus generator they should buy for emergency standby use I tell them the MEP-016D, with the warning that the (fairly primitive) control box likely needs some TLC to get the gauges to work right, etc. Since it uses what amounts to...
I certainly agree with your thoughts on the MEP-002A. I picked up a depot rebuilt 002A two years ago. After some minor work, it has served me well ever since. Recently, I began to consider picking up an 003A, or even an 803A, so that I could be sure of adequate power during an outage. One thing...
I tend to agree if I had to pick one for stationary standby it would be the MEP-002a , if portability is a concern at a little under 300 pounds there is a lot to be said for the 3KW Yanmar powered MEP-016D even if it is a 3600 rpm screamer, I see having a pull starter is a big benefit.
I recently purchased an Mep-002a and during the normal prep work( filters, oil, fuel injecter pump cleaning) i broke the switch that kicks the starter out at set rpm. Not sure on the name, start control switch, starter kick out switch, starter over ride switch. Located below and to the right of...
Hi guys,
I tried to use my 002a and have a problem. The unit starts and runs just fine. When I had first bought it and set it up, there was a short at the starter positive lead against the shutter box. When I hooked up the batteries, the VR capacitor burned up and the ground strap burned. I...
I had assumed that the -002A was wired the same as the -003A, but it is not. The -002a schematic shows the ground return for field flashing connected directly to ground, not through the starter disconnect switch, so moving the switch to the start position when the engine is running does apply...
1, Yes it is possible, but why? As stated it would be cheaper to buy two small batteries.
2, Since the generator starter wires are around a #4 or 2 awg wire I would think that would suffice
3, Any kind you prefer, since this is going to be nothing even remotely close to anything the military...
MEP-003A Field Flashing, or Lack Thereof
I noticed something about the field flashing circuit of my 003A. When cranking, the field is momentarily energized or "flashed" by S1, marked "Master Switch" on the control panel. 24VDC is sent to the positive side of the exciter field, and current is...
Ok so i did what you said i think this time lol. I pushed in the (picture attached) arm with the arrow all the way up until it hit the stop screw on the injector pump. Still no fuel.
Thanks
Rob
Ok i think i did this correctly. I pulled the throttle all the way out on the unit. I then tried to start it, when the solenoid pulled it up i took at screw driver and tried to raise it higher. It did not go any higher and no fuel was coming from the out ports for the injectors.
When i...
Bob here from Green Mountain Generators. I own this modest company;-) I love this forum and Smokstak as well. I thoroughly respect the opinions of everyone on the forum. GMG has acquired 100's of MEP-002A and MEP-003A units at auction. The reality is that the average cost of a unit (any...
Other than filters, I would wait personally, there is just no telling what you may find, let me give you an example of a good story. A few months ago I bought a 5 KW MEP-002a with about 800 hours showing on the meter from GL. Overall I got very lucky with this unit, as it appears to have just...
Like the others have said there is not much worth mentioning when it comes to the differences over the years, plus the majority of the ones your likely to run across have been through the rebuild process enough times that they are now mix and match.
If you still want to know the common...
I have an interesting situation, trying to determine if it's common and if there is a fix.
Resent Letterkenny tier 2 reset, 2.8 hours on the ticker. When I start it up it won't show freq/volts unless I toggle the starter switch back and forth into the start mode once or twice. Produces power...
Picked up a 002a with 1330 hrs yesterday that I won at the recent Ft. Polk auction. No problems at Polk or with GL. Enjoyed the experience completely. Got the unit unloaded yesterday eve and checked it out thoroughly. Residual fuel in tank and filters was very clean. Also oil on end of dipstick...
Major update on this unit. Lots of progress but a few steps backward which still have me stumped
While waiting for the gauge and fittings to put NJTOOLNUT's glow-plug compression testing tool to full intended use, I changed out the valves, and finally switched heads, all to no avail...
