Picked up two 002a's on trailer. Both with just a couple hour's on them. New Fuel, Oil, and filters installed. Getting fuel to pump, but don't get any fuel out of injector lines. Not sure what it's called, but the device that retracts when you hit the starter seems to be working fine. the arm on...
Thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge about these great old generators.
I bought an MEP-002a from South Dakota after reading these forums and the TMs and learning a lot about the units. My generator is a 2007 rebuild, with 12 hours on the clock. All new hoses, hose clamps, and wire...
Ike, I have a MEP-002a from GL that has a newer starter with a Southern Automotive label on it also. I found them on the internet and it looked like I could order directly from them. After looking further they look to be a government contractor and manufacturer. Has anyone tried to order...
The starter on my MEP-002a that came from GL in June has a Southern Automotive label on it, so I guess that is where the military gets theirs at the moment.
Ike
I have a MEP-002a that I am having troubles with. When I first got it I went through and replaced all filters and cleaned the fuel system prior to starting, everything looked good. When I went to start it everything was working properly, starter was turning over fine. It cranked over and...
Those are good suggestions, but you are getting it messed up as to how the start circuit works on the 002a and 003a's. When you put the master switch into start with or without the starter lockout switch disconnected, all of the safety switches are bypassed. So that means you will always hear...
Harley,
You are about to enter the 400 Hz Zone, where things are not as they appear, or as you THINK they appear. You have already stumbled upon one of the inexplicable differences between 60 Hz control boxes and 400 Hz control boxes. You should remember that this has already driven me CRAZY...
Hi
I am looking for any help. To have my MEP-002a fixed. It will run but must be jumped at the starter .(As I am unable to start it from the control panel.)And then It no longer will produce power when its running to the house. I have it out side of Spokane WA. and would like to take it to some...
It sounds to me like someone wired the switch wrong, you may want to check the TM for connection numbering and compare to the switch. I know on the the MEP-002a there were at least 2 different version of the switch installed with different wiring connections on each (2 are covered in the TM...
Uriss,
Please start a new thread with your questions and problems, you will get a better response that way. You can do this while you are in the appropriate forum, in your case the "Aux Equipment" forum, and clicking the "New Thread" button at the top of the page. Thread-jacking not only is...
Well, IT HAS BEEN AN ORDEAL, but I have my generators. I had a pickup appointment scheduled to pick up one of the 3KW Yanmar MEP-016D's in Pineville, LA yesterday morning, and the other MEP-016D at Ft. Polk along with the MEP-002a. Well the night before the pickup I spot a nail in the rear...
Starters are series wound motors. They are not that sensetive to the input voltage. 24VDC starter on 12VDC will be less torque. If it spins it fast enough to start and overcomes the compression then no problem. On the small Yanmars the decompression must be used which allows the starter to...
I have purchased over 20 MEP-002's, -003's, -004's, -005's, and -006's in the last 2 years. Not one of them was ready to start when I brought it home. I never did get one with batteries; so I have had to purchase batteries for every one.
Only 1 turned out to be unrepairable (economically...
Here just one of a few threads on this. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/auxillary-equipment/64455-mep-002a-mep-003a-replacement-oil-pressure-switch.html
Do an advanced search in the aux eq forum for "starter pressure switch", for more.
If you have the Mitsubishi (geared) starter, a good 002A will start down to the 40s without any pre-glow. These starters spin the engine over a bit faster.
For insulation, rigid fiberglass board should work.
No need for flashing the field, this is done by the starter switch.
On the frequency meter, these can be pricey. Before buying a replacement, check the transducer first by pulling it (4 screw terminals, tag before disconnecting and 4-#6 machine screws+nuts) and using utility power on the...
I just got a MEP 002a from GL, it was one of the more tired ones out of Pa last month. The recent WIKI posting on these is very usefull. Went though the usual filter stuff, tank cleaning. I was spoiled with my last year's purchase of a mep 701a, which had over 400 hrs, but started and...
Joe, did you have to sow seeds of doubt in my mind over my 002a ? I checked governor and control lever action, the latter was STUCK! And it is a major pain to remove. The governor's spring and centrifugal forces are slight, this lever must move freely.
First, remove the stop solenoid...
