    1986 M1008 5/4 CUCV

The knob in question is to open the vent down by the drivers left foot. There is one on the passenger side as well. Pulling on it opens the vent, pushing it in closes the vent. Use caution, 40 year old plastic can become very brittle.

    Windshield wiper and washer repair

My M1008 seemed to have an issue with the washer and wipers, the washers would not squirt and the fast wiper speed would not work. Sometimes they would and other times they would not. The low speed seemed to work just fine. Thinking that the wiper motor assembly was bad, I changed it out and...

    M1010 Convoy Truck

Little more progress over the weekend. Found some unit markings on the rear of the box during the sanding job. One coat of primer and the first coat of OD. Got the Black and Brown camo on, but didn't get pictures. Planning on coating the roof inside with the Lizard Skin ceramic insulation this...

Has anyone installed a cooling system upgrade?

I have one of the kits on my M1008. Some people think it's not needed and others think it would be a good idea. My thought it's worth a try and would only be beneficial given the history of these engines with blocks and or heads failing. I do not have any data as to it being better or worse...

    M1010 Convoy Truck

I thought about 24 VDC but it's simpler to keep it all 12 VDC. The original M1010 alternators were replaced by the previous owner to the standard CUCV configuration. Once I get the engine back from the machine shop, I will start the process of getting the alternator and AC compressor mounted to...

    M1010 Convoy Truck

I thought about putting the generator where the original AC unit was. But getting to it for refueling and maintenance would be an issue. Decided to enlarge the original heater access door and install HD drawer slides so it can be slid out or removed to use it. The compartment will be vented and...

    M1010 Convoy Truck

Getting the passenger side out was very difficult. Much harder than the driver side. I decided that it was not going back in....Eventually with a sawzall, cutting wheels, battery recharging, BFH, hydraulic jack, pry bar and a few four letter words, I got it removed! Every time I thought I had...

    M1010 Convoy Truck

The heat and A/C for the back will be a roof mounted RV type unit. The back of the vehicle was gutted to make room for a new interior with beds, sink, shower etc. Things might be a bit tight, but we will make it work. I have a 12VDC to 120 VAC inverter to run it while we are traveling. At night...

    M1010 Convoy Truck

There has been some progress with the build. I will get some pictures posted later along with details of the factory insulation. The factory insulation was just placed between the inner and outer aluminum. It is very easy to remove once you drill out 1,456,231.5 rivets holding all of the inner...

    M1008 external trans cooler

From the Hayden Web page: Should the cooler be installed before or after the radiator? Answer: We recommend installing the auxiliary cooler after the radiator to return the coolest fluid directly to the transmission. Installing the cooler before the radiator will still provide additional...
