    MEP803 Newbie, need advice

Time to study Operators Manuals, TMs and such: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?148871-All-the-manuals-for-the-MEP-802-5KW-Generator-and-MEP-803-10KW-Generator I changed my thermostat because unit was overheating. I found out the problem there: I had put too much antifreeze in...

    MEP 802A Load Issue

For typical vibration performance you can compare the run movies on GovPlanet sales: MEP802A vs MPE803A. I've been able to get my 802 to where it compares nicely to most of those I've seen for sale. Just watch the oil cap chain jump around. The 803 has always run smoothly with very minor...

    MEP 802A Load Issue

Yes sir. I've been soaking up info from this site: I've adjusted the injectors and lubed up the isolators - they are in good shape. One seemed to be more compressed than it's matching unit so I tightened them all as much as I could - tough getting a wrench on the bottom nut. Vibration has...

    MEP 802A Load Issue

My 802A has 3 wires coming out of that item. One is disconnected. The other 2 run the oil pressure gauge. I've had to repair one of the wires twice due to the vibration of this machine and tight zip ties. I now have a longish pair of wires that are free to vibrate (cut some zip ties) and my...

    MEPs and Hurricane Irma

I guess we can all see some of ourselves in Guy's rant. I've been running the snot out of my 2 generators to the point my neighbors are beginning to make jokes about me (to my face !!!) sitting for 2 to 3 hours reading magazines with my ear muffs on while my machine grunts on at 100% PF ...

    MEP803A part question

Sounds like the fuel return line. Lot of discussion about them leaking / weeping through the braided cotton outer cover. Daybreak has an excellent post here with lots of parts info....check out the 'fuel return line info' on post 2...

    Surge Brake lock out

I own a couple of those trailers and could not find any 'back up pin' hole on the brake actuators. I've had no problems backing them up the drive or backing down a logging road. However, none of my backing adventures were up a steep hill.

    Generators at GL ?

I had an early 2000s version of this 6.5kW Generac when I lived in SE Ohio (and it cost about 2X as much as this one). It kept me going pretty well during an 8 day outage but it was LOUD!!! http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200369634_200369634 3 or 4 days into the outage I...

    Generator Accessories

An image of the wrench from my MEP-803A is attached for part numbers. A 1-3/8 combination wrench fits the lugs. No idea if it will fit an 002a/003a. Part number is 30554 88-21146.

There is definately a lot of debate on proper grounding and neutral bonding. I have read mixed reports on grounding: some feel that the extra ground rod at the generator is OK. All agree that the neutral to ground bond must be a single connection in the 4 conductor circuit.

I have disconnected the ground to neutral bond in my generators so they can be used for house back up with a 4 wire connection. I dropped a ground rod at the generator and always have that connected. I bonded the ground and neutral in my electric stove 'load bank'. My thinking is when load...

Are your ground clamps as installed temporary? I'm thinking vibration may cause the clamp to slip off the lug in the unit. Someone walking by could kick the exposed ground rod clamp off the rod. I would get a permanent bolt on clamp for the rod and use the machine's lug to clamp the ground...

    Generators at GL ?

You might want to do an actual tally of the amps you use at your home then consider when they come on line. Each appliance will have a listed amperage. I'm in Virginia Beach so the highest probability of power outage is during a hurricane or freak winter snow storm where everyone jumps in the...

    MEP-803A / MEP-802A Water Temp Gauge

I had a similar malfunction with Water Temp gauge on my MEP803A and bought one that reads max 280F.....and provided WAY inaccurate readings. I then found a used marine diesel engine gauge on the auction site that reads max 240F - like the Beede one that failed. I did not want to change out the...
