    Letting the crankshaft drop

So, now that the seal is munged up, try wacking off a small section and use it to push out whatever spooge is left up there. By chopping off a bit, you can work it in place easier.

2000 mile road trip in an FMTV

How is the interlock controlled on the FMTV? Could they have been driving with it locked? Thinking out loud.

    Engine Choice?

You might struggle to find a gear drive for a 6.2. Phaser has ceased production.

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

That stinks. Hope a nice inexpensive 6.2 falls from the sky.

Front axles not working in 4 wheel drive

Sure, sorta! Remove the 6 torx screws and remove the hub cover. There should be one external snap ring on the axle and an internal in the groove of the wheel hub. Once both rings are out you can (if not too crusty) remove the hub assy. I would go to the TM section and download TM...

Front axles not working in 4 wheel drive

Service both hubs. The right side appears to have not locked. I would service the right side first.

    6.5L turbo vs 6.2L

I didn't know this at all. Got any pics of the difference? Googling now. Edit, found this. Very cool info. https://www.google.com/amp/s/halfmastpsmag.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/know-the-difference-between-the-hmmwv-6-2l-and-6-5l-detuned-engines/amp/

    Letting the crankshaft drop

I would lube the new seal with clean engine oil. The rear of the crank is being held snug by the converter. Also let me add that I had a long feeler gauge that I used to use on small blocks to remove old seals.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ford made an underhood light that had a retractable cord like a trouble light. I had one of those in my truck at one point. I had to file off the crazy ford logo though.

    Letting the crankshaft drop

Did you unbolt your torque converter?

Deuce crash in Winston-Salem, NC, 11/2017

Correct, however, as I said, It can be used in sentencing. Been there, done that hundreds of times.

Deuce crash in Winston-Salem, NC, 11/2017

Despite the fact that they were dismissed, they still offer weight in traffic magistrates sentencing within the sentencing guidelines. We don't know the circumstances of their dismissal. Conviction or not, it does show a pattern of non conformancy.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Okay, I can justify why I did it. I have endured the cascading failure before and it was on a daily driver CUCV, I needed a way to be able to keep on starting it. I would compare it to a series GP circuit, one fails and the cascading effect makes none of them work. My resistor is in place and...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Hey Tinstar, is there any technical reasons why you want to keep the resistor in place.

secret kill switch - security - discourage possible theft?

Everyone has opinions and a goal for their security. The goal for mine was simply to thwart anyone who has a CUCV key from taking it for a spin. I like the idea of keeping the CUCV key so this was logical. Sidenote, anyone remember the "No wheel, no steal" campaign from Grant (steering wheel...

secret kill switch - security - discourage possible theft?

For what it's worth, there was a nursery near me in FL that had a fleet of CUCVs. They also had a row of deadlined trucks with no front axles. Seems they were all theft recoveries where folks stole themfor the front axle.

Front axles not working in 4 wheel drive

Explanation of test. With transfer case in 2 HI, lock in both hubs. With vehicle parked and off, crawl under it and try to turn the driveshaft. If it turns, look up at each axle joint. Whichever axle is spinning will be the side with the issues such as broken hubs.

2000 mile road trip in an FMTV

IR thermo is great for all kinds of things including troubleshooting a miss. I would say that with all the aforthought put into this trip, you should have no problems.

Changing the rear springs on my M1031

Looks like the 22-617HD is what I'll be looking for. My truck weighs 8600# with just the tools and supplies in it.
