I'm done jumping through their silly hoops. I wasted four hours of my weekday (as a customer facing business owner with employees this is costly and inconvenient). If Oregon is so stupid they can't realize that the interstates were built and paid for by the federal government in part FOR the...
Drove the truck to the DMV today - about 30 miles round trip - and no issues with the charging system.
Of course the Oregon DMV doesn't want to register my truck. Saying they want a "letter from the manufacturer stating the truck meets federal standards for highway use"...... even though the...
Since all the gauges are driven by the MMDC - I would start with the connections there as Ronmar mentioned. My truck had a bad pressure transducer inside the MMDC and I opened it up and replaced it with one from another MMDC (that also had a bad pressure transducer).
Another knowledgeable owner...
That's true - the cooling system on these trucks is gigantic with a monstrous capacity and the engines run pretty cold unless they are loaded. Mine will stay at 165 pretty much indefinitely unless cruising at highway speed for a while. They were designed for operation in extreme environments...
I have had several successful test drives with the (new old stock) regulator with the 2012 build date the past few days. Got it on the freeway today for a bit and had no issues with the regulator going into flashing amber. So as of this posting I'm calling the 2013 regulator that we drove 2600...
That's typical of the 90's trucks with the 3116. They don't have a ton of power. You can install high speed gears and get them up to about 65 or so. But acceleration will be (if anything) worse since you have taller gears. These are still light-years ahead of the old M35's, 800 and 900 series...
Self building, while possible, takes some engineering to do right. The issue is that unlike a normal RV, these vehicles are capable of some pretty extreme terrain and they have very flexible frames. More than one person has turned a self built habitat or an RV strapped to the back of an LMTV...
You'll be money ahead to just find the M1087 and build from that. Ready made habitat. All other options will end up costing more. Just like the M1079 - price out an M1078 with a Globtrekker box vs the actual M1079. Yeah my truck (2008 M1079 A1R) wasn't cheap, but a good condition M1078 plus a...
The brackets on mine are 5/16" plate where I can measure on the edges of the pockets and 3/8" on the bottom and supports for the pocket. Here's some pics of the mounting (2008 M1079 A1R). On mine the front has about a 5/8" thick rubber pad, and the rear pad is about 1/4" thick. It's that way on...
I can take some pics for you.
There are no cross-bars.
It has an upper frame with the mounts for the box. It's pretty ingenious actually. The front mount is "captured" inside a box so it can rise up and down. It is affixed with about an 8" piece of all-thread that has a spring under the body...
Test drive today - no issues on (less than 1 mile) trip to lunch. Restarted after lunch and alternator did NOT start at all after restart. Checked LED's and both LED's were flashing amber. I pulled and reinstalled the K11 relay with it still running to be sure it was NOT energized (no click when...
I haven't checked for AC ripple yet. You really think it could be an SCR/diode failure of the rectifier?
I reviewed the Niehoff troubleshooting documents and I swear when I looked at the LED's on the regulator yesterday after it stopped charging (didn't shut it down and immediately restart as I...
I have considered this - the turn signal on the passenger front works but the passenger rear does not so switch seems unlikely? The switch definitely could be the problem with the horn and washer motor though. I have pulled up the diagram for the A1 (but not the A1R - don't have) and I'm hoping...
WELL...... the over-voltage cut-out on the 28v side has returned - did it to me once yesterday and then once today. It seems less frequent though. Today it happened once shortly after I started driving. I shut it off and restarted it (literally at a stop sign) and it remained in the normal...
2008 A1R if it matters.
I find that one of my caging bolts is missing. Anyone know the size and/or part number?
Also both of my canisters are missing the dust cover for the caging orifice - any ideas there?
TIA!
I figured, based on the pictures I had seen and the videos I had watched, that they were marking up the commonly available urethane universal boots. When I saw the parts retailer had the boots for $9.99 (I'm assuming black Friday since they are back to $13.99 each now) I bought 4 of them -...
