Well I finally got the new fuel pump on. So now the truck has a new tank pickup, lift pump, fuel filter, and gear reduction starter. So the green machine is back in action.
A little tip for anyone doing a lift pump change, take the the line that comes from the tank off at the tank and Hook up...
If you have never had one before you are going to learn one of two things.
1: you will learn to love it.
2: or you will hate it, but it takes a lot to hate one. I mean like the truck causing a global ice age.
If it gives you a problem and you are getting made just go chill out and vent your...
Today I changed the old starter that died on my with a brand new 24 volt gear reduction unit from the boys at Hillbilly Wisard.
Also changed the fuel filter which got from them.
Tomorrow I will be changing the lift pump.
As Rsh4364 stated add a fuel pressure gauge to the system.
But I would set up two gauges one in cab and one under the hood. That way you can see it while running down the road and while you are under the hood.
Do as wish, hope this helps.
Thanks guys.
I was thinking it could be the filter.
I have a spin on with base I just haven't never felt like installing it.
How hard is changing the lift pump?
Thanks
I have a 1986 m1008 with a completely stock drive train. I drove the truck most of the day yesterday, all around town and some longer runs. I got home and let the truck set for a few hours and it wouldn't start. It has done this once before when pointed up hill and I was a little low on fuel...
Well I drove the green machine a lot today. I get home it sets a couple hrs and I tried to start it up. It fires up runs for about 30 seconds and goes dead.
I had an issue the other day where if I parked it nose up it would not start. Nose down and it would start great. Well today it did it...
Not to be disrespectful but I'm not sure pirate 4x4 is an option.
I went there and read as a guest, and I was quickly reminded why the moderators edit post as they do.
That is not the place for "family" reading.
I replaced the fuel pick up in the m1008 today.
I ended up taking the runner seal out of the Metal ring and just putting it under the pick up.
I drove the truck a little today and the throttle response is awesome and the truck has a little more pep.(for a cucv)
It's your truck do as you wish.
You could keep this one M stock and drive it and (since you can't just have one) buy another one to "build".
Also some pics would be great.
