Has anyone ever just put a camper shell on a deuce instead of modifying a M109?

GMC motorhomes were produced in the 70's and marketed as the only motorhome designed from the ground up to be a motorhome, as opposed to a cab and chassis or bus platform used for a base. These were powered by the Toronado drivetrain, which I think is pretty cool...

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

Enjoy it on the way there because you aren't doing that in the HEMTT on the way back. Also because it drops back to 75 around Kerrville. Safe travels.

    m928a1 questions

All of the dash inop seems weird to me as the speedo and tach are mechanical. Some trucks do burn out all of the electrical stuff if started and run with dead batteries but that just takes out the electrical gauges. The NHC 250 makes a peculiar noise that sounds like someone beating on coconuts...

    Ultimate 5 ton tractor

I'm guessing all of the drop-side versions that are not for ISO containers are "one offs" for a particular application. As in field modified or fabricated. The TMs specifically state that long wheelbase cargo trucks do not come in drop-side versions due to structural requirements.

    Ultimate 5 ton tractor

All of them do. The truck came out of Ft. Bliss and the bumper markings are AMCOM, which stands for Army Aviation and Missile Command. CARNAC said it was most likely used for Patriot missile battery resupply and the drop-sides are to facilitate forklift loading.

    Which engine?

How about a Cadillac 500 cu.in. torque monster? Good for lots of low end torque. Even with buying an aftermarket TBI injection system for drivability, it would be cheaper than the alternatives listed above. Big torque motors do not need lots of gears so a TH 400 with moderate gears in the...

    Ultimate 5 ton tractor

The dropsides are two pieces. The front portion is the same as the stock deuce bed length, 12 feet. The aft portion is 8 feet long, providing the porch. You can kind of see it in this picture. It was taken at a local Four Wheel Parts truck show where parking was at a premium. There are people in...

Wheel removal for wheel cylinder replacement advise

Most of mine broke loose with a loud pop instead of squeaking from movement. I positioned the cheater pipe above and hung my weight on the end, being ready to stay clear once it popped and the pipe fell. "Give me a lever and a place to stand and I will move the world." Archimedes of Syracuse.

    Ultimate 5 ton tractor

Yours is the only 927 I have seen with dropsides, besides mine and it is considerably different. Here's a side view of mine. The front section on mine has stake pocket spacing that matches the deuce bed exactly. That allows me to use my deuce's troop seats, bows and cover on this truck, with a...

Wheel removal for wheel cylinder replacement advise

I second the use of the Ken-Tool cross-wrench and a cheater. I used a ten foot cheater cause that's what I had but a few of the nuts seemed to have needed most of that. I also use a HF 6 ton jack stand to hold up the side of the lug-wrench opposite from the end on the lug. Once all were broke...

Wheel removal for wheel cylinder replacement advise

The axles are part of the flange that is bolted on the hub with the eight bolts, 3/4 head size. Bearing retainer nuts are next, exposed when the axle is pulled. Second on taking a look at the technical manuals.

    Tires. 14.00s vs 16.00s

Most of the rubbing occurs when the rear axles move in opposite ways, and the upward moving tires hit the underside of the bed. Obviously not a problem with a tractor, unless it has a trailer. As far as spacers to fix that problem, it would be fairly easy to fab up a spacer for the rubber bump...

M923 A2 HI LO Stiff shifting Problems

I have found that some trucks do not have the shifter adjusted exact enough so the electrical switch makes contact when the truck is in neutral. Try wiggling the shifter handle within neutral while pushing the button on the t-case shifter. Do this with the engine off but the truck aired up. With...

Military camper platform, which to build

Hi-Lo on truck of your choice. Hey Red, I just picked up an older Hi-Lo camper. the overall width (top part) is exactly the same at the inside width of the MV truck beds (deuces and 5-tons). I had been looking for one of these for a long time and finally snagged one just this week. This...

    Tire hop

Some tires may have run flat inserts installed and if so, they have a gooey lubricant inside that probably won't work too well with balancing beads.

    Fording Project

One day while at work on the flight line at MCAS Yuma, the temp reached 135. This was on a day where the official airport temp was 115 degree. Of course there was only one airport and the flight line I speak of was at the same airport but the official temp is taken by a thermometer in the shade...
