Looks great! Congrats on all your progress. Your front end is probably sighing in relief with that heavy winch off and your top speed increased by at least 1mph!
Congrats on your progress! Way to work through the issues and possible culprits. I have the chance to buy a non running 404 locally if I can work out a decent price. Maybe your experiences will come in handy! Have fun with your running Mog.
Hi over there in Wilmington. I am an hour or so away near Elizabethtown, NC. Glad to have another SEE owner around. My truck has the exact same issue. I have plenty of air pressure, but my truck must have sat for so long that the actuator solenoid seems to be frozen and will not move the lever...
Now your just showing off with those working windshield wipers! Looks like they put some nice bright LEDS on your front upper lights and signals. Very nice SEE for sure. Hoses look great too. Never seen a gun mount on one either. That thing looks ready to work or play!
I feel your tallness pain! I am 6'5" and have the same issues. I ended up taking out the puffy/padded headliner on my SEE. It helps a lot. Just a tin roof now!
Sounds like you are making some progress. Check the wiring on the temp sender before you order a new gauge. My SEE temp gauge did not work at first, but cleaning the electrical contacts had it working again. My oil pressure gauge did not revive and I plumbed in a new mechanical gauge.
Yep, that is a very nice looking SEE! You are way ahead of the game with those Pirelli tires compared to the original Michelins which always look to me like balloons getting ready to pop. That ripper bucket is scary cool! Wish I had one on my SEE. Seems like a great machine that should handle...
Congrats on your new acquisition. From that pic it looks like you have a really nice condition SEE!-exterior at least! Tires look like something other than the standard MichelinXs. Good luck with it.
That is odd damage on that part. Hard to figure how it was inflicted. Not good news to see how the screw driver slots have been abused. Seems like your description of coral is referring to corrosion in the inner bowl surfaces? Must have been a lot of water in there over the years. Not trying to...
Hi again, I agree with NDT. That carb needs complete disassembly and cleaning. A few years ago I built a Mercedes Benz 170vk (war time kubel) replica from a post war MB170v. Nice little straight 4 with updraft carb set up. Went through that carb and had it running really nice. I sold it to a...
I think you have violated the forum rules for sure with your polizei mobile and are ordered by the court to forfeit your truck to me for safe keeping while your appeal is pending!
Great to see the pics. I am a fan club member for this truck! That engine cover is something I have not seen before. It looks like thick insulated fabric. Is that right? Most unimogs have insulated metal "dog houses". They do their job, but are heavy to move and put on/off.
Crane looks useful...
Oh yeah, I had a theory on the rows of holes above the grill. Maybe they added those on winch equipped models to get more airflow for cooling since the winch blocks the grill quite a bit. Has to be some reason the factory went to that trouble?
Really enjoying the pics of your 404! I guess the uncovered blue light on the roof indicates a police van of some type.
I had good luck getting some Continental MPT tires for my SEE Unimog from Colony Tire. They have a mil surplus division in VA. Price and shipping was reasonable.
Sounds like...
Super cool 404! Congratulations on finding her! I studied the 404 series quite a bit back when I had my Swiss version and I don't remember that box version. Could be a police version like mentioned above or some kind of command and control type. I wonder if the basket/fence around the top is...
Hi Hawaii mog, if you haven't already discovered it there is a thread on this site called FLU419 SEE owners group. It is a very long thread and you would be well advised to read through it. Tons of information and common SEE issues are discussed. Plenty of helpful hints etc. Good luck with your...
My first SEE was one of my best military vehicle success stories. I bought it off govliq. out of Barstow,CA for $21K and had it shipped across the country to NC for another $3k. I watched as the shipper came down my street and freaked out. From looking at the auction pictures for so long I knew...
