lots of little things accomplished this afternoon. 8 more bolts and the engine comes out.
All the wiring is disconnected from the engine, fuel filter housing is removed. Vacuum line to the trans has come out. Oil lines are disconnected from the engine.

Today I started disassembly to remove the engine.
Removed the alts, radiator, generator speed controller.
Took lots of pictures to remember where everything goes.
One last update for today.
used a 1/16 drill bit to drill two holes in the shifter shaft seal. Screwed in two #8 screws, used vise grips to lock on and then a large flat tip to provide leverage to walk it out.
No damage to the shaft.
A little Dexron III on the seal and a 9/16 deep socket...
Replacing the seal and gasket on the front pump went surprisingly well. Homemade slide hammers work well except for the one pinched finger.
Very clean inside the trans. Barely any grit on the magnet. I am replacing the original pan with a new one that has a drain plug.

Hello All. Been getting work done lately. Resealed the transfer case over the last month.
yesterday I removed the trans crossmember, torque converter cover and torque converter bolts and unbolted the starter. Today after cleaning up the shop I pulled the transmission, power washed everything...
Spring break is here, getting some time in the shop. Over the last month I managed to reseal the transfer case. In the last two days I removed the transmission and pressure washed it. Getting ready to reseal it this week. Then it will be time to pull the engine.
Here is a picture of the tool. It allows you to push the lock plate down so you can remove the snap ring.
the turn signal switch is below the lock plate.
Without pictures and based on what you have posted, it sounds like it is time to replace the turn signal switch behind the steering wheel. 40 year old plastic becomes very brittle...
