Toby, you are correct. I am giving up on the rack. I spent more time and energy getting that rack built than anything, and it wasn’t an easy decision.
Actually, it was. When I saw it sitting up there (it did stay up there for a good 90 seconds) I was disappointed. I didn’t take a picture...
Thanks Storm 51, nice to know someone is listening. Tinstar has been following along, he loves the 101A2, Scrapdaddy has a good writeup over on ExPo. I used some of his info. Harleyhouse has a nice write up on his build too.
Mine is a collection of pipes so far, but it’s taking form. The form...
This design also removes 90lbs off the top of the rack and adds about 30 lbs for a net savings of 60 lbs (which could be the difference of carrying a spare tire)
Overall I’m more pleased with this design than the previous one.
An interesting side note. The initial design and fabrication has...
The shoulder is about as good as it’s going to get, so, back to work.
I put the roof rack on top of the legs. I slid it up from the side and it barely rests right on the bends. Very precarious. I didn’t have time to take a picture before it fell off. (Yeah, I know, I didn’t learn the first...
I used to haul water in my Water Buffalo. That’s another 3500 lbs. behind a 3/4 diesel. You knew you were pulling a lot of weight. I didn’t use a riser though, because it didn’t matter to me. The angle doesn’t really matter, mostly aesthetics, but as 98G pointed out, a riser will torque your...
Before I was an iron addict, I picked up a Water Buffalo from a guy in Wichita Falls for $400. It was pretty nice, missing the drop leg, but, pretty complete otherwise. The tank was pristine (still is) but I “repurposed” the trailer chassis into a dump trailer for sand and gravel from our...
I have some trailer plugs that have the pigtails that should plug into the wires on your trailer, unless someone cut them. Usually people cut them between the plug and the connections. But, anyway, PM me if you need one.
Everything on a 105 is heavy. Everything. Even the bed is beefy.
You could pull the bed off and make your own frame with electric brakes on the axles if the $ makes sense, but you will still have a heavy trailer, just not as heavy.
I have some NOS 105 beds, they are heavy. had a 105 trailer...
I used to tug some multi million dollar private jets with a tug that had a horrible clutch. I just remember the captains watching me Inch the clutch out for what seemed like forever, knowing if I jerked the nose wheel of the jet they would jump my cheet. Not like backing a trailer, but like...
Have you changed any fluids recently? Transmission fluid specifically? I noticed a significant loss in power when I changed my transmission fluid to 15-40 when I first got my truck and was about to drive from Idaho to Texas. Didn’t know what was in it, and TM said 15-40 and the all knowing...
I have to give props to 98G for introducing me to this welder. The pain of buying it and the full TIG setup, spool gun etc was substantial, but he was right. This thing is a monster.
It’s good to have friends who guide you in the right direction. Money well spent is never money wasted.
Buy...
Just a quick note. Brick houses are not as strong as the three little piggies might lead you to believe they are. Trees are, and they grow back, unlike houses ... unfortunately.
They just don't build things like they used to.
