I would guess it might be a faulty air governor. Try replacing that before tearing apart the compressor. You might find that there could be some dirty junk stuck inside the governor.

I request a rematch! My truck was not in low gear for the tug of war. Next time I'll bring out the tug boat rope so you guy's won't get away from me when the strap breaks. Then I will show you guy's what a 5 ton can do.:driver:
If it is a HMMWV then either the fan controller is bad or the connections to and from the fan could be bad or even the fan clutch, but I would check all your connections first. If your truck is an H1 it has a viscous fan clutch and you cannot spin it by hand then it will need to be replaced.
No worries man, some of the guy's here are planning for a second trip out later in the month at the same location. Maybe we'll call it 2014 SoCal Spring Rally Part 2.
The addition of those lights on the bumper really help out while cruising the desert at night. One of the best mods I've done to the truck.
