Thanks all for the advice.
I have been working on these brakes, off and on, for three summers.
Finally last summer we sent the airpac out and paid over $300 to have it rebuilt. Since then I have had these "locking up" and "dragging" problems.
I have rebuilt or replaced all 12 brake wheel...
This is going to be my last go around one way or the other.
I have all six wheels off the ground so that I can try them all, or anyone of them at any time.
What it seems to be happening:
When I depress and then release the brakes the front drivers side wheel locks up so tight that I cannot turn...
OK Friends, I('m giving it another try. Picking the hotest day of the year, why not.
Anyway cant figure out why this thing keeps locking up ahen brakes are applied, and then taking 10 15 seconds or more to slowly release.
So my son and I blocked this up so all the wheels are off the ground...
I was able to reach Precision rebuilders and had a good discussion with "Tim". He made allot of sense and I can send him the unit if needed.
But he gave me some pointers of how to determine for sure where the probem is.
Of course it shows up at the wheels. But one must start at the opposite...
As if I dont have enough problems already, (see M135 Giving up, thats me)
Anyway my buddy and I are working on an old jeep. Its titled 43 but we think its a 48?
Anyway, thats not my reason for inquiring.
Last year we got it running nicly but it kept heating up and we determined the radiator was...
Well friends, I have located the invoice paperwork from last year when I had the air pac rebuilt by a firm called "Precision Rebuilders". It cost us a total of $381.59. To us, thats allot of money, but I guess if we "want to play-we gotta pay".
But we shouldnt have to pay twice?
I guess I'll...
Well thats all good advice indeed. As I have already decided to stay away from if for at least a few days, or even weeks. But I do want to get it right befor the 4th of July.
I have a good old M1 Garand and lots of AP and if it were mine I might just do away with it. At least sometimes thats...
Friends,
I cant throw the part away as I dont have another to replace it with. I had sent two units to the rebuilder last year and asked them to make me one good one from the two. I knew that the upper bleeder port was bad on them both at the time, as I remember it.
If I had another case I...
What a bunch of great guys!!
I hate to admit being beat by this. Not for me but for Dad. Just yeterday morning as I was removing a front wheel for the second time my brother brought Dad outside to watch. He cant talk but was sure trying to tell me what to do. I spent about the last five...
Hey guys, I appreciate all the encouragement.
And yes, I think it is the booster, air pac. Thing is, last summer I just paid a few hundred bucks of my Dads money to have it rebuilt, and its not working. I just cant justify keeping going on. Especially when I am not sure.
And tomorrow is...
 Well friends, I appreciate all the advice you all have given me over the years as I struggled with my Dads 1952 GMC M135. My most recent subject being "help finding brake parts".. I found what I thought I needed. I rebuilt the rear whell cylinders and replaced the four on the front...
Thanks for the tip on Niagra Military!!
I just tore down one of the front wheels and I think at least one of the sylinders is beyond honing. Probably both are pitted too bad.
But if they have them at that price, problem solved.
Thanks
So orry to take so ling getting back. Was away from here and my Mom's computer is so messed up I could not log on.
Anyway. The rubber cups come 10 to a box. I bout two boxes and the total bill w/ tax was just $45.00 and some change for 20 of them. They were $1.80 or so.
Now for the rest of...
Hey ya'all!!1 Used the NAPA number and had my friendly neighborhood mechanic order them for me. Came in a couple days and I just finished rebuilding the two back wheels. Going to give her a test trip or two and then do both front wheels.
The rears were not leaking but were all gaulded and...
Hi friends, Seems each summer I have to work on these old truck brakes. My Dad has this 1952 GMC 6X6 and he is unable to do anything anymore. So I am elected.I need the rubber cups for in the wheel cylinders. Can anyone advise me on where I might find them??? Sure would appreciate it...
Thanks again as always guys.
I'll send some pics when finished. But I know I will not get the entire jeep painted this year.
What I am doing now is just under the hood and under the front end.
Regards to all,
Brad
Another question???
OK, I got me some Naptha. Now a question, just in case.
I was doing a little painting on a different project today using what the can said was "acrylic latex enamel", using a bruch.
I thought I'd use the naptha to clean the bruch. Well, I dont think that went too well.
The...
See, I heard that before. A local guy who has been a professional painter for 40 years told me to just use laquer thinner. He said it would be ok.
I have a hard time understanding that? If it woks then whay are there different paints and thinners????
Thanks again for the advice everyone
Thanks guys.
Never heard of using Behr paint? Too late though, I have 3 or 4 gallons of the Gillespie already. Just need the thinner.
I guess I'll try the Xylene this fall in the cool weather.
Does anyone have an idea what the Synthol should cost??
I think I saw Xylene at Lowes for something...
Howdy friends, been awhile since I was on this site. Always allot of help.
I need some info on paint thinner?
I am using AJP Gillespie enamel WWII Green. Used it before on Dad's M135 with Martin Senour Synthol #8005 reducer and it worked fine.
I seem to remember it cost around $18.00 / gal...
