You need to check the schematics again, that solenoid does not power the glow plugs it is intended to be closed all the time when the run switch is in the run position so supplying an output all the time would be normal, in fact the blower and alt will/would not work otherwise.

One small example of what you will find in the -10 operators manual is that when you turn the run switch to off you must wait at least 90 seconds before switching back to run or you can damage the glow plug system including the VERY expensive PCB/EESS box. Also you should start your own thread...

That solenoid has nothing to do with the glow plugs, the fact that the glow plugs seemed to work is only a coincidence. No I would not leave the circuit board, why would you want to?

To rebuild the box to be manual you must strip the circuit board completely out and add another solenoid

The large solenoid in the box controls the blower and the alt NOT the glow plugs, the glow plugs are powered by the CMOS devices on the board, so you are not controlling the glow plugs, All you have done is effectively disabled the heater blower and the alt.

Check and make sure your heater blower works, it is on the same relay that excites the alternator, I would suspect you are not getting 24V to the IGN terminl on the regulator since rebuilding the PCB box.

Only the number on the data plate identifies a HMMWV, no other numbers mean anything, there is a production number but I doubt AMG would provide any info even if they did keep up with it.

There are allot of pitfalls out there at GP They have a "basic" M1097 for sale listed as a 1998 right now but if you look at the data plate it is clearly a 1993, whomever buys that truck would be well advised to get that fixed before the SF97 is issued or it will be a nightmare.

They don't have to blow up to fail but they usually do.

Makes sense to me, I will bet if you pull the cover off of the PCB you will find some fried components on the circuit board. You are saying the volt meter does not show the usual drop in voltage as the glow plugs draw current from the batteries yes?
