RickO,
I can tell you my experiences however the are a number of ways to do a repaint, you just need to find the way that works for you, your local and your budget, body on or body off.
For me and me only...
1. I am not a fan of media blasting myself (that is doing it myself). If someone...
CGarbee,
If you get panels from John, you will not be disappointed! I have made panels for 3/4 WC CC's since no one else made them so it is nice to have a panel that slides right in!
Clinto,
First, I remove almost everything that is bolted down and clean. For this M38 I rebuilt the axels...
Hi Everyone,
I just replaced my M38 driver's side floor which I obtained from Midwest Military. It fit like a glove and only took 3 hours from removal of old and setting in of new. Then welding took another hour or so. I highly recommend their floor and for the price, you cannot replicate...
Hi Everyone,
I set the engine/transmission/trasfercase/drive shafts and radiator. Rebuilt carb, fuel pump, and complete ignition system. Then I fired her up with fresh gasoline! It sure is fun to bring one back to life! To top it off, it was a nice Sunday here in Mid-Michigan so I fired up...
Rattlehead,
Nice truck and speaking of enough room, I have plenty of space for it and the price would be cheap as long as long as you leave the "keys" in it :D
Great truck...is it going to Ft Custer?
Well, inbetween working and playing with this M38, I finally have gotten around to getting the running gear primed and painted. This is a nice frame with zero rust! Both axels have been reworked as well as the tranny and transfercase. Replace head gasket, rebuilt carb, new rear exhaust stud...
Hello Chuck,
I contacted Curt and he was nice enough to look into it for me. Like my memory, my membership lapsed...looks like I better get two checks off in the mail in order to play at Ft. Custer!
FYI. I will be leaving out of Eaton Rapids on Saturday am most likely with the hmmwv via the...
Hi guys,
I am planning to show up only this time I am staying away from the 6' water hole! Thanks for the link to the sign up/ pre-registration. I also need to check my membership status...
RE: Sam Winer Motors or Adelman
Sam Winer in Akron OH has around 40 acres and all of it is accessable during business hours. After hours you will have to deal with one bad yard dog! I highly recommend stopping by if you have the time.
Ted
ps. thanks for towing my Mog out of the water trap...
With very limited information to go on, my .02c is that $15K-$25K but inspection by buyer is a must! How are the frame rails, brake system, fan clutch, electrical system, etc.? Plus it has civi rims...Good luck. Ted
Hi Chuck, your rants (advice) are definately NOT wasted! I stumbled into these M38's and I had to do it! It is the only army jeep style I have not restored...once this is done, then the search continues for a 5 tonner!
The red M38 is not a fixer upper...it is a parts rig.
My care package...
Thanks for the replys. This is a fun project!
CGarbee,
I sent you pics of my R2 crash truck...did you get them? If not pm me.
Regarding this M38...look at the front brake plates...M38A1's (still a Dana 25). Those have to get replaced plus the thrust block in rear differential and of course...
I will try to post a few times a month on the progress. Once I got the M38 home, I stopped by a friends place and picked up his wrecked and quite rusted M38 for a donor vehicle (I traded a M series engine generator and M series single pin jumper cables with caps and 2 pin adapters...good...
Hi Everyone,
Well in December, I went looking for a 5 ton M813 and then a CDN 101 trailer and found a dismantled M38! I thought I would post pictures of this unexpected restoration. Since the previous owner passed away, there was not asking what had or had not been done. What nuts, bolts...
RE: HMMWV Before and After
As stated, no one was injured! Could have been a lot worse.
The owner has received pricing from me and an H1 dealership on parts and then he will decide how to have it fixed. Even though it looks bad, the amount of work to repair is not that bad. The worst area is...
BTW, look at my ex-humvee (thread: humvee before and after) and remember accidents DO happen to mv's!
Again, this has been really helpful to me and I believe others that have read this thread...Thanks.
Hi,
I thought you would like to see my ex-humvee. It was side swiped by a track-hoe on a low-boy trailer last Friday night  . Fortunately no one was injured so now I can show you all!!! :D But the Humvee took a beating! Damage estimates are currently US$15K. Just a reminder...
Again thanks for help everyone...Regarding MI S.O.S., I am gun shy of them since the licensing of my 2-hmmwv's. The people were very nice but not well trained. It took 40 minutes with them on the phone with a specialist somewhere in State Secondondary Complex to figure the number for them...
