If water did get into the pump the only thing it could get into would be the hydraulic head. The head is very simple to replace. Just get the gasket set from Saturn and you'll be good to go.

The HX35 is fairly small for the 5.9 Cummins (roughly 360 cubic inches), why would you want to throw it on a 488 cubic inch motor? I'd use a 40 at minimum.
