    Bridge Plate Yellow?

Hi Group, What color / brand of yellow paint are you guys using for bridge plate markings? Rick Larsen's page refers to the color as "chrome yellow" but I can't find it anywhere. Hardware store yellow paints are too mustard-like. Regards, Jon

Which paint for my 72 Deuce?

Having recently received 4 gallons of Gillespie 24087 for my deuce, I was a bit concerned about this thread... I opened one of the gallons today and painted some test pieces. I am now much relieved! It looks no different (that I can see) than TacticalTruck's M548 or mutt, or gbooth's deuce. It...

    Anyone ID this 6x6?

Nice! I like those tires... If I were going to use anything other than NDCCs I would want a set of those. Jon

    Electric wipers

Hi Group, It seems a lot of guys here on SS say their soft top leaks a lot... mine doesn't leak at all, and it beads water nicely. Although mine is pretty new, I wonder if older soft tops that leak can be sealed up with Canvak? From what I've read it should be applied once a year to keep the...

    Exhaust Paint

Thanks for the pic... Yes, I agree it does indeed look nice! I'm tempted to follow your lead, but that's my dilemma... originality (rust?) or what looks good... Regards, Jon

    Exhaust Paint

Still dwelling on this subject, I did some research on heat resistant paints. I found the manufacturer of the mil exhaust paint. It's lusterless 383 green colored... might not look too great with my 24087 semi-gloss. I doubt they would have been interested in selling me a pint...Besides...

    Exhaust Paint

Hi Group, I think I read in an old PS Magazine that the vertical exhaust on an M35 should be painted "high-temp olive drab", and a stock number was given for this. Has anyone found a civilian equivalent or a source for original surplus paint? What are you guys using? What about just shooting...

    Need your VIN number

My Kaiser-Jeep M35A2 WO/W is supposedly a 1968, but the vin is 0125-36424 Truck number is 4L-1095 Here's a scan of the original data plate... I darkened some of the numbers as they were hard to read on the scan. The contract number is DA-20-113 AMC-03416(T) Jon

Wright Patterson AFB Woes Continue; Help!

Hi Walt, I completely agree with NEIOWA in that it is better to ask forgiveness than permission. Also, I don't think that just because you've asked the "wrong questions", you should not still go for it... I say "Just do it!" It seems to me that, from a "site manager's" perspective, the default...

    Transfer case part needed

Hello Group, I ended up getting the piece from the fella I got the transfer case from... Turns out he had another transfer case that was junk, it had gotten water in it, but I pulled out the part I needed and it was fine. Thanks for the help! Regards, Jon

    Transfer case part needed

Hello Group, My sprag gave up the ghost, so I bought an air shift transfer case to replace it. I got a good deal because it was sold as an "untested core", however it appeared to be in like-new condition inside and out. It came in a large foam lined wooden box and had an overhaul tag from...

    Radiator Cap

Hmmm... Well, if it's the 10psi cap I personally wouldn't use it. Another possible source is "Frank's Surplus" or "KCGonzo", both eBay sellers that usually have them listed. Regards, Jon

    Radiator Cap

Every vehicle that I ever raised the cooling system pressure on, has ended up having coolant leaks. Hoses bulge, water pumps, freeze plugs and head gaskets weep, radiators fail. When an engine has spent it's entire life operating at a certain coolant pressure, and then you propose to increase...

WWII T34 found in a lake!

Hi Mark! I noticed that story was published in the "Komatsu Times"... So I guess I can't fault them if it seems that too large a part of the article is dedicated to extolling the virtues of a Komatsu dozer... I'm surprised the government didn't take it - Finders keepers?... Cool! Jon

Has ANYONE rotated their exhaust pipe?

I'm pretty sure I read in the TM somewhere that the exhaust is *supposed* to be pointed 45 degrees out and to the rear, but I often see it at 90. Mine came from the Army at 45... Regards, Jon

Freqent Shift of Transfer Case - OK or BAD?

Have those with fast deuces checked to see if their tranny is a (rare) 3053B, as opposed to the standard 3053A? The 3053B, I've learned from this group, has a slightly higher overdrive and 1st is not as low either. I'd like to know if there are actually any 3053Bs out there, and how rare they...

    Mystery Bracket

Thanks for the tip Jeff! I just won one a few days ago on eBay already, I lucked out and found one NOS in the box with bracket and spare nitrogen bottles the first time I searched... I paid $35, not too bad I suppose since it is brand new... Jon

    How hot is too hot?

I have finished replacing the rear axle seals and cleaning and repacking the bearings. I adjusted the bearings per the TM, tightening to 50 ft.lbs. and then backing off 1/16 - 1/4 turn (shooting for 1/8 turn) to get the keeper to line up with a flat on the nut. All seems well except for the...

Year wheels went from green to black?

Holey crap, there's some great pictures there! THANK YOU!!! Those are the best reference pictures I've yet seen! I've scoured the net as well as Google will allow and found very few period pictures of trucks in service. Invaluable. Thanks!!! Regards, Jon

Year wheels went from green to black?

I want to revert my M35A2 back to it's 1968 appearance... I can see the outline of stars on the door and a circular bridgeplate that was painted in the upper right corners of the doors, and lots of OD semi-gloss... Inside the map compartment, under data plates, and the entire underside of the...
