Third to fourth is still a big step when loaded, but fourth to fifth is really nice and keeps the RPM up! Good word on the CAT and lugging...I love to spin a motor!
I'm not sure how well this would work. Sounds good, but the 5 ton spring are MUCH wider than the deuce springs. I'm talking like a night and day spring size difference. The other thing is the piece that the stock springs ride on top of...the spring go through that piece and nut on the bottom...
Trango, on another post I posted about making my own rear brackets. You could, actually, use the exact same mount for the front for the rear as the bolt circle that the brake backing plates use is identical. I patterned off the front, used 5 of the 12 holes to bolt it on, flipped the rotor...
My deal was that I ordered...
2 high clear pans
2 detroits
1 ton wheel disc for steer rear
1 ton wheel disc non-steer
2 weld in bungs -for future build-
Then, a little later, got a windfall enough to get a set of Selectros. All in all like $2300+ for all the stuff I got. When I first ordered...
Just so you guys familiar with the Selectros don't think I'm outta my mind, the thick spacer that comes along with the Lockout unit itself was drilled correctly with the proper 8 hole pattern diameter and bolt size. I could put the lockout unit knob down on a bench and lay the spacer on top of...
1400's are big...like pop-goes-the-axle...Big, and heavy as hell. My XML's are 255Lbs mounted on 20" double beadlock wheels. My Wide carcass XL's 46x15x20 are 225Lbs per tire UNmounted. I'm still trimming the fenders and cab on the 715 for the XML's. I've done some work with the truck...
I've seen them around. Check out the guarding they have for the cab...a little light. Long Island Brush Truck was around for a like 20 years and founded by a Fireman that drove trucks in the woods. Every bar is there for a reason.
I had a sprag style case in mine but wasn't happy with how inconsistent it seemed to be. Probably just needed adjustment but when a T-case with the Memphis R.E.B. Transfer case kit all but fell into my lap (bought spare truck for $300 with that and a PTO on the T-case) I slapped that thing in. I...
Like those Firestone ND's on that. I have Rockwells under an M715 and had been running 1100x20 Goodyear Custom Xtra Grips on single style wheels. Have since gone to XML's and trimming. :) In PA also, south central.
This sweet machine is basically in 'as delivered' condition and usually the fire companies have a tire guy that will put on suggested rubber. Usually a Michelin design or even a Firestone SA Traction DPLX. The company that built this was Long Island Brush Truck...sadly since out of business...
Anybody have a line on those Russian military tires or a manufacturer that has the outside 1/3 of the tire is like a tractor tire, then the center has some connecting blocks between the treat. These tires would ROCK!!!

I get into some slimy stuff time to time as I'm working in the woods and wonder if there's a preferred, or proven, rear axle that a Detroit Locker would be the best in. I know that the front axle would be the best IF lockouts were installed. Any ideas guys or should I just see how the big...
When I rescued the parts deuce I had for a while it had an outer shaft on the front had snapped just in from the drive flange. Had the ball style knuckle in it. I've heard a lot talk around about them being a weak point, but that pretty much cured me. I'm hoping I won't have too much problems...
I happened to have 13" clutch and pressure plate from a Medium Duty Chevy...like C60-C70. It fit the CAT flywheel so I picked up a new one from Advance Auto Parts. Usually cheaper than a NAPA set by quite a few bucks. Think it was in the $170 range but can't remember for sure. Oh...
Uh...these aren't quite that easy to just re-center. With these the center IS the outside bead. It's like one big plate with a couple steps pressed into it and the 10 wheel stud holes AND the bunch of holes for bolting the it onto the other side of the can. I'd post a pic, but I'm about 2400...
I've got a line...we'll, actually a deposit on seven 5 ton, beadlock, 'combat' wheels. I also have six, 395/85-R20 'wide carcass' 45.5"x 15.5" XL's. Has someone made up a low cost, like under $100/per, wheel adapters going from 6 on 8-3/4" to 10 on 11-1/4"? I'm about to delve into this search...
Hey Lee,
Doug Cook knows a guy that put the 250 Cummins in a deuce and loves it! You may want to track him down and see if he can give you a number to the guy or something.
I hope I'm not stepping over any bounds here being new to the site...I'm not new to Rockwells and have dealt with Daniel and his company in the past with horrid results and an endless pile excuses and crap to the point that my order was never completed. Oh, and the 'NEW' rear 'bolt on' caliper...
Mike,
Do you see in the first couple of winch pics that the winch brake housing is empty? I took the guts out of it. Then, the second to last pic I don't know if you noticed that the empty housing thing is gone. I personally can't find a good reason for the winch brakes and think the added...
Mike, Thanks!
Bob,
Ah, the turbo reason...good reason! If I were going to put a turbo on, I'd go with a twin disc clutch too. I think the higher turbo HP and TQ would have you slipping in third not too long after.
I hate to throw this at your thought process sort of late in the game, but...
