Very sad they threw away old inventory, would have been nice if they had a fire sale. That is the problem with corporate america. Better to scrap and get things off the books.
White Owl in the Carolinas has a lot of parts for the older gas engines. George will normally answer the phone. He outfitted my 6602 engine with some hard to come by parts. I luckily was able to find a take out motor and it has been invaluable to have a spare motor to get parts from also so...
HEMTT NOS Cargo Cover Kit, NSN: 2540-01-198-7409

More details in the following link on the cover and kit...
7 hour trip in a civi vehicle but man the Blue Angels are totally awesome. Would love to hook up with somebody to be in the back if I drive down to get on the airstrip.
This has been a good thread to read. Lots of good common sense troubleshooting items and then a big AHA at the end when sometimes we attack things we think are a problem and not really a problem
Thanks everyone who contributed the good ideas
Put on an aftermarket receiver type hitch. That removes the poor bumper design on the original pintle. Get a Pintle based receiver assembly and get a M101 trailer.
Best of all worlds.
You have a normal receiver hitch now
you have the best trailer of all
Just a reminder to everyone,
I spent 3 hours chasing down my low beams being out on my CUCV. After testing everything and replacing some components I decided to check the bulbs, duuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Guess what both low beams in the bulbs had burned out around the same time.
Love that! Thank you Antennaclimber. I ordered one.
For the rest of you the site to order is below:

I like hurting my back every time I have to lift the type6 batteries out of the CUCV's for troubleshooting or changing light bulbs!!
Just swapped the front and rear battery positions which should be done yearly as the starter battery does not get the same cycles as the 12 volt system battery...
Or purchase from a SS member at a good price.

Maybe a HMMWV owner can tell me why I should sell my 2 CUCV's that are street legal, cheaper to purchase, maintain and operate and get me anywhere in the woods that I need to go? Other than emotional "Cool" factor I don't get it? Am I missing something?
