I might not know what I'm talking about. I'm also learning :p
Looking through the 2 of 2 of the operational maintenance TM, I find it curious that it actually describes replacing the 1545P with a 545, almost like someone was expecting that replacement to actually happen. There is mention of...
I had to look at your picture again. I thought you were referring to the vent line. Are you sure those aren't for the temperature gauge and either the neutral switch or backup light switch?
I got my M35A3 TMs from Jatonka's site. It seems this site is full of useful A2 TMs, which the A3 TMs also reference here and there (anything common with the A2 like the split brakes and suspension).
My 1995 AM General M35A3 is my first army truck. I don't intend to mod it other than eventually getting it a fresh coat of paint and new tires. Mechanically, it's the same as when it left the service besides the air pressure relief MWO (it was somehow missed in-service).
I'm trying to...
Does anyone have or know where I can find pictures of these trucks in the service? Could be on bases, in war zones, and so on. I haven't seen any besides those used by other countries.
This makes me wonder if these additions were made to it while in the service. It's not the first time I've heard of military vehicles get sold off with non-standard parts.
I'm planning on taking my truck to its first car show this weekend. I'm thinking about displaying some stuff alongside it, perhaps some pages from the manual or sales brochures from AM General, or other fun facts. I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me get some stuff prepared for the...
At least you have a newer motor
Regarding the trashed boots, I don't think it should be a problem as long as you keep most of your driving to paved roads. The boots are only dust covers; they aren't waterproof and they aren't meant to hold grease in the steering knuckle. Get grease on...
One more thing I discovered, at least with my truck: The fuel/water separator will drain best right after the motor is shut off. I think this is because there's still enough fuel pressure to force draining. Waiting a longer time will not allow for draining at all.
Make sure to wear a hat and...
After driving my truck a bit more, it seems the tach is still off a little bit, by maybe 200 RPM or so. Idle speed is spot-on it seems. It just gets a little wacky when running the engine faster than that. At this point that'll probably be a next year project.
Last fall a guy in Buffalo was asking $6,500 for a nice-looking early 70s M35A2 with winch, cargo cover, and LED headlamps. Driving condition, too. I think that was a pretty good deal.
I've seen people asking between $4,000 and $7,500 in driving condition. Of course the driving condition varies, but I've seen some gems get sold. The M35A3s are being asked for about 50% more. This is based on searching mostly Facebook Marketplace.
I'll need a HET for that eventual Leopard!
I'm pretty sure the next truck is going to be either an M35A2 or a HMMWV. My wife would love to have a tan slant back, and it would give the rest of the kids something to ride in!
