So I just have to pull the two half shafts apart. Yeah, I'm a weakling. Maybe a tug of war using the driveshafts using the local high school football team!
Why do I have a feeling that if I do manage to get it apart it is not going to go back together very easily!
Thanks for the advice!
...into the where the splines and shaft meet. At the zerk fitting you would likely just blow past the seal. I've done this with other stubborn yokes over the years and it's probably been 50/50 success. I've never done it with a HMMWV driveshaft but I would try it since you have nothing to lose.
...not unscrew, it is held on by a lip and it is very difficult to remove and even more difficult to get the new one on. I rebuilt my front driveshaft during my conversion and replaced my cap because it was damaged.
The slip yoke where the two driveshaft halves pull apart is hydro-locked...
Has anyone got the part numbers for the rear driveshaft U Joints ? Tried looking in TMs but couldn't find anything. Rock auto has ones with different sizes, need to order right ones as I'm in the UK.
...the original and grade 8. One day, I'll get this little task done. Order of operations currently is: singles, intermediate axle brakes, driveshaft swap, battery tray and driver tool box repairs, turbo manifold bolts, fuel filters, parking brake redo, and brake lines all around. Yeah...
...allowed them to put a hollow shaft on the transmission output to the top gear in the transfer case. On the normal 3060 transmission, the driveshaft yoke would have gone there.
Thru that hollow shaft they ran another shaft that allows that C6 clutch to brake the sun gear buried in the middle...
...15 gallons).
Then I rolled the ol girl out into the sun to stretch her legs a bit.
Purchasing 4” ORD shackle flip and front springs soon. Then a radiator and finding a motor. Also need a front driveshaft still, since I destroyed the old one…should pick up on progress here in the next few months.
...far here has done a super job covering the bases involved
3: There have been occasions on blacktop long-hauls we have removed the front driveshaft, this saves on sprag wear .. But if you're not running long-distance and system is working as it should, a good rule is to leave it alone, it's...
...Get remainder of parts to install the winch. I have a 20K rebuilt Garwood winch with the level-wind and a new PTO but I need linkage $100 driveshaft $300ish and the frame extensions $200 so at least another $600 there not including a 250' 5/8" Swivel hook 45,000lb winch cable... $550ish so...
not very familiar with the 809 series trucks but I believe you can change it between 6x4 and 6x6. if not you can always disconnect the front driveshaft.
I didn't hear anything bad. Maybe you found the problem in that driveshaft. It might be worth it to pull the U joints out of it and install new ones. PM me if you need a second ear.
I know that one with the cab is up for auction again. The winning bid was 15,000 last time. Not sure why it is back up again, I guess whoever won backed out? Unknown trans issues, missing driveshaft, and no idea how much actual front end damage there is. I will be watching it today for sure.
...of what I am looking at(major parts), but not what it should look like. I think the major issues were the front end damage and that driveshaft. I am more worried about being able to get it up onto a truck bed. I looked back at it and It did look like it had some missing bolts on the trans...

When I got my first LMTV, and before I started reading the TM's, I didn't know about the air bags on the cab. That is the only air bags I know about on these trucks. Short explanation is that it raises the back of the cab roughly 3 inches. Greatly improves the ride for the occupant. It...
...was it was a great dump truck except the suspension was squirmy with the air bags.
Currently a M1070 has a PTO on the transmission with a driveshaft that runs underneath the current winch platform and connects to a hydraulic pump.. I’m thinkining about mounting the hydraulic pump that was...
