...like you suggested in an earlier post. The top is fine, so what about under the truck? What do you have for clearances down below? No driveshaft or axle flex problems - Right? I mean with all the measuring and fitting that you have done, the answer has to be No Problem but I just have to...
You're going to have a fantastic truck when you're finished. I don't think you'll ever sell it, but it will be a valuable and desirable truck. Have you decided on the motor yet?
...to the leaf springs, I was able to roll her out and let her get a little sun today for the first time! I was also able to get the rear driveshaft installed and parking brake cables installed, along with a much needed cleaning with the backpack blower.
Rear u joints were in good shape so I...
The muffler heat shield was rubbing the driveshaft on my newly acquired GovPlanet M1151A1. So, after receiving the necessary parts, I replaced the dry rotted exhaust insulator and added exhaust spacers which were needed after the demil process. Result: no more rubbing heat shield.
Before...
The rear U joint on the m1009 has the snap Clips on the caps inside to center it on the yoke. Same as the driveshaft. the snap rings are on the inside. They are NOT out side.
This is just an example. The M1009 requires the internal snap rings to keep the U joint centered in the open yoke.
I am working on the underside of my truck. When able, I will be replacing the rear seal on the trans. I'll need to remove the rear driveshaft in order for this to happen and while I am at it, I was going to replace the U-joints (Spicer 5-1350X). I have viewed a few videos and thought I would...
After buying my truck last fall and fixing the worst problems on the truck (CTIS seals and new driveshaft) and driving her around on progressively longer trips gaining some confidence in her, I took her for a long trip. I Bought a M 105 trailer and fetched it. A 350 mile trip and sixty miles...
...you flip the steer axle case around on a 5-ton steer axle to move the offset to the other side?
Is it possible to set the axles up for reverse rotation (for rear mounted engines)?
Can the chunk in the rear axles be turned around to gain a bit of driveshaft offset from the centerline?
Thank...
...to the axle. The only way to have anything not be spinning, like what is done with lock out hubs on the front, would be to remove the driveshaft to the rear most axle and remove both axle shafts from the rear axle. Which seems like far too much work for the minimal fuel economy gain you might...
...I have read mostly of people desplining the hubs on the front and rear axle. Some say that it is easy to get stuck even on wet grass if you are running that way. Others use a locking hub on one side rear only to help it turn a bit better. I cannot imagine pulling the driveshaft is going to do...
Hi, yes, have air-shift with free wheeling lock-out hubs on the front steering axle.
Tire wear and fuel mileage are both considerations.
Some people, in older threads, think its best to remove drive from the rear axle, others including Jatonka, think its best to remove drive from the forward...
If you’re trying to improve fuel mileage by doing this good luck… but if you must try removing the rear driveshaft and blanking off both rear axle shafts, as well as the same on the steer axle, if you have an air shift transfer case, would have the best chances of any measurable results. It also...
...drive to one of the rear axles - by doing so fuel economy and tyre wear will be improved.
My question is which is the best axle to remove drive to and why, and which is the best way to remove the drive, splined shafts (one or both?) 0r removal of rear driveshaft if the rearmost axle is chosen.
Actually, no vibrations at all when traveling 65 to 70 and even at the occasional 75mph. When I first got the truck, she wanted to wander quite a bit when on the highway. I replaced the drag link and now she goes where pointed, for the most part. When everything is functioning correctly, I...
...Now I just need to finish painting the axle and get the shackle flip kit ordered so I can get the rear axle back underneath her and rear driveshaft installed!
If you look closely at the first pic you can see where I took the opportunity to do some re-work. The upper shackle bolt has to go...
...bumpsteer and turns very sharp in parking lots.
I wish I did overdrive and crossover ten years ago.
If you are stock height I don't think it fits so it's a commitment for sure.
Do you get drive line vibes at that speed with the 09? I imagine the short rear driveshaft doesn't like that speed.
...time. Looks like the new pads I put on the rear pinion brake had melted to the rotor. Filled it with fuel and brought it home. The rear driveshaft is locked right up. If I open the bleeder for the rear caliper, it does release and the driveshaft has a normal amount of free play. From what I...
...mind trimming the fender. The greatest gain is bumping the front axle forward but that will need crossover steering and maybe a new front driveshaft.
I wouldn't sweat the suspension and brakes. The brakes will send you through the front windshield at any speed. Have you seen the size of...
