My M813 is titled as a '79, the engine was manufactured in 4-'81, and I don't know how to decode my axles tags but I'm trying to figure out which date would be the most accurate in terms of indicating when the truck left the assembly line. Does it make sense for a 4-'81 engine to make it into a...
Wow, all those rigs look like they're straight off the showroom floor. Is that cargo truck (M925?) On a short wheelbase frame with a shortened bed or am I seeing an optical delusion?
Edit: I think the listing in your signature answered my question. Looks factory- very nice job!
I have repair & adjustment info for a Ross HF64 steering gear from a Ford truck shop manual. I don't know what the differences are between yours and this one but they appear similar and it may be close enough.
If these don't enlarge enough to read I could take pictures a half page at a...
77 AMG,
I don't know much about the CVC helmets but they look like they would be fun to use (at least for short durations). Are you going to have helmets on all ends of your intercom?
Here are some random photos of the H161 headsets and some of the intercom cables. I got (4) NOS headsets from 1993; 2 were H-161E/U and the other 2 were H-161F/U.

Looks like some parts come off of that one to work. Not sure if the 813 bed would be narrow enough.
Gary, thank you for doing all of that research - this is a wealth of knowledge and history! My truck is titled as a 1979 so it could definitely have been part of that 9-3F-34 unit at Fort Lewis. I'm thinking that with a 40 year old truck it's possible that the dragon and the bumper number unit...
I've never been in a convoy beyond a few parade MVs, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
As a teenager I used to make my dad slow down as we passed the convoys heading to the Yakima firing range so I could check out the hummers top to bottom. You didn't see many smiles on the driver's faces...
oh, cool! I emailed him some photos of my finished installation along with my gratitude for the quality of their work.
Knowledgeable he is. Even after studying through the intercom technical manuals for months I still struggled to have a conversation at his level, but he is exactly the kind of...
I wanted to start a fun thread where folks can post pictures of what they see from the driver seat. I really enjoy the view from the seat of my 5 ton towering over traffic, pointed up a mountain side logging road or waiting in a parade line. It's interesting to see what other members get to...
Here are the bumper numbers before they got wire wheeled off and painted over. I couldn't quite make out what they said and the numbers were painted on at least twice on two different layers:
If I stare at it crossed-eyed long enough I can kinda make out an 'A-14' on the driver's side and...
Gary, by chance could you have an example of how the bumper numbers might read for this 5-5 unit?
My tattered bumper number pics are on my computer so I'll post them up later. Maybe you guys could help translate them
Whoah, that challenge coin is the closest match I've seen yet. The seller said he bought the truck from a guy in Yakima (160 miles SE of JBLM) and the Yakima guy still had the remnants of the auction stickers on the hood & drivers door. JBLM is the only location I've heard of for military...
