Engine compartment electrical upgrades - Let's see some pics!

If it makes you feel better a lot of work had already gone into getting it to that point :ROFLMAO:

    Glow plug relay

Yeah I second the burnt fusible link. If you still have the stock wiring to the 12V block, then the wire you're looking for should be the 8 awg red one running across the top of the firewall from the negative terminal of the rear battery to the 12V distribution block. Check for continuity across...

Engine compartment electrical upgrades - Let's see some pics!

For anyone who's interested, this is what I ended up doing this weekend. Left the batteries where they were (for now anyways), installed a 110A breaker for the glow plug circuit which is now powered directly off the front battery. Replaced glow plugs and relay. Cleaned up every electrical...

Engine compartment electrical upgrades - Let's see some pics!

That looks really nice! Pretty similar to what I was thinking of doing. And I like the relay and fuses mounted on the resistor cover, it looks super clean. Has heat been an issue at all with them located behind the engine like that?

Engine compartment electrical upgrades - Let's see some pics!

Hey guys, I'm in the process of doing a fairly substantial overhaul of the wiring on my M1009 but I'm having a hard time deciding on where to put things. I've removed the resistor bank and am going to swap the fusible link on the GP relay supply to a resettable breaker. I'm also planning on...

New M1009 Owner - Plans and advice

I know RockAuto's shipping can be a bit pricey but yikes  I just checked out Raybuck and looks like it will save me some $$$ so thanks for the tip. I hadn't even thought about the balancer, that's definitely going up towards the top of list. I like having my crankshaft in one piece :LOL...

New M1009 Owner - Plans and advice

No worries! It's pretty much already completely consumed me and I haven't even had it for a week so i can only imagine how much worse it'll get! :ROFLMAO: Well thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one, although I'm honestly surprised there aren't more. And since I guess I should have...

Thank you! I do feel like I lucked out and found a half decent one. You are definitely correct, except I'm actually a woman

New M1009 Owner - Plans and advice

I hadn't thought about having both but I really like that idea! Best of both worlds. Thanks, I'll add that to the list. I think it shifts pretty good right now, except it's maybe a little hard on downshifts when going uphill. Nothing terrible though.

New M1009 Owner - Plans and advice

My welding skills are mediocre at best right now but luckily I work in a race shop and have a very talented fabricator friend who's willing to help me out. I had been planning on ordering the whole piece from Rockauto but if anyone knows somewhere cheaper, or somewhere in my area please let me know!

New M1009 Owner - Plans and advice

Thanks for the welcome and replies! It's good to hear that I'm on the right track so far, I definitely owe it to hours of reading through the endless amounts of knowledge y'all have shared on here. I have to hold it down. Previous owner said no longer than 15 sec so I've been doing about 12...

New M1009 Owner - Plans and advice

Hey guys! First time posting here but I’ve been reading the forums for a while now, and I’m excited that I can finally be a part of the community now that I got my M1009. This is my first diesel, first 4x4 and first time owning a vehicle older than I am so I know there’s going to be a bit of a...
