    C7 Blow By

I haven't noticed anything significant from mine unless it's over filled. Once it finds the level it likes (assuming over filled) nothing much is evident from the breather. Maybe a little vapor..... I'll have to throw a go-pro down there and film it I guess to really compare since it's a pretty...

    C7 Blow By

Lots unless you run them two quarts low. It will spit out what it doesn't want. CAT redesigned the breather to be more like the 3126 to avoid it but it doesn't fit under our cab. The military guys all know about it and just run them halfway between the low and full which is 2 quarts. That's...

    Power Distribution Panel M1083A1 10/98

You have an A1R, or A1P2...... The "annunciator chase sequence" you called pacmaning is the annunciator panel's way of telling you it has no coms with the MMDC. The fact none of your gauges are working also indicates lack of drive from the MMDC. So check that you have proper power and ground...

    LMTV FMTV Exhaust Brake Questions?

Correct. And it stays engaged down to around 20 or less if it can remain locked in 2nd (trans computer decides).

    LMTV FMTV Exhaust Brake Questions?

Operation of the exhaust brake is largely the responsibility of the engine computer. There are a couple options that can be changed in terms of how it interacts with cruise control for example. The ABS computer also knows about the "retarder" and needs to be aware when it's in play so there's...

    LMTV FMTV Exhaust Brake Questions?

Are you moving fast enough? Third gear won't necessarily be going fast enough to authorize the exhaust brake. It does stop operating below a certain speed. The engine computer and transmission computer ultimately are the gatekeepers - the engine computer has to control the exhaust brake and you...

    M1083a1P2 No cab power

The newer Bussmann CB's are totally redesigned and they use the "mini" (ATM) blade fuse interface. Sadly this makes them incompatible with the older trucks but maybe Bussmann makes a similar variant for the normal sized blade fuses. That all being said - I have not experienced or heard any...

Who are the experts on the Air compressor

I would use Viton or Silicone o-rings. HNBR might work too - those are used in refrigeration/AC systems so they can handle some oil and high temps/pressure - AC systems routinely hit 300 psi. The factory one's are Nitrile which is essentially just vulcanized tree sap with some carbon and extra...

Who are the experts on the Air compressor

The gaskets are installed dry...... I've done half a dozen of these with the RNT-26 kit from Haldex without issue. Check the surfaces but I would guess it's probably that gasket. I haven't seen that one before with the pre-applied sealant stripe. Make doubly sure that unloader access plate is...

Thoughts on removing coil springs on A1R

Safety glasses..... Jock strap. Two condoms. 911 keyed in...... When they pop you WILL lose that death wheel. Where it goes.... Nobody knows.

    Air Flow CFM?

All the other newer military stuff (largely from Oshkosh) use some variant of the VIP line from IMMI. The HEMTT actually uses almost the same wheel I'm adapting and those are extremely common. Our S&S wheel was inherited from the Steyr which didn't have power steering (in all cases anyway) and...

    Air Flow CFM?

Sure.... But there's not much to see without looking really close because it's a 2008 M1079 A1R that I keep looking almost like it could have driven out of the Motorpool yesterday if you weren't intimately familiar with the van window sizes and that these were not equipped with awnings. Most of...

    Air Flow CFM?

It's just a filter. Not that glorious or complicated. As I pointed out with the airflow - it's SIMPLY a matter of maintenance. Maintenance cost, maintenance interval, and maintenance ease. Those are all pretty easy things to visualize in your mind. Consider every option from each of those...

Thoughts on removing coil springs on A1R

King will tell you they have no idea and that they will have to be custom made. A friend of mine has KING shocks on his M1088 and he also knows the owner who apparently arranged a team to custom build a set for him. Took them an entire day to manually machine all the required spacers and...

Thoughts on removing coil springs on A1R

Probably be plenty of A1P2 chassis being scrapped and all the inventory being dumped due to the completely different A2 platform..... likely be plenty of em laying around for as long as you and I need em.

Thoughts on removing coil springs on A1R

    Do it. There's zero drawbacks.

No. Installed dry. Same with the head gasket.

CAT HEUI issues, failures and fixes

Yep have to get 870 psi or no love making between ECM and injectors. Check the fuel delivery system. The lift pump on the back of the HEUI pump, the fuel hoses, the seals on the various filters, etc. Engine should start and run with the sensor unplugged or faulted out but will have no power -...

Who are the experts on the Air compressor

You just buy the whole kit. The leak at that gasket means you will also be replacing the unloader pistons, springs, and o-rings. You could make your own gasket with gasket paper, a ball-peen hammer and some assorted random ball bearings and replace the unloader piston o-rings with some from an...

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Flow rate is hard to estimate as it gets into length of the hose, number and degree of bends in the hose, etc. Easier to just replace like for like and not have unintended consequences.
