One recommendation - stay far clear of the Chinesium carp.
There is someone selling the complete kit over in the Classifieds. I was thinking of getting that to replace the Chinesium crap I have but every time I save up enough dough, something goes on the fritz and the $ goes poof!
You sir, have some real chutzpah!
Wrench turners like me could take it apart, but never in a billion years, get it back together - let alone have it work properly!
Yeah! Finally, my luck is turning better! It is fixed!
I used the advice in this:
After a lot of experimentation, I put two of the thickest half, cut-off shims on the outside of the starter, and it started right up, no grinding, and was much, much quieter than before on the original starter...
Thanks for all the suggestions. I have some personal matters that eating up quite a lot of time.
I was able to borrow a battery load tester so I did not have to remove and shelp those heavy things around. I tired each battery separately, and both together. And multiple times each.
Disconnected...
When I crank the engine the fan moves a small amount and stops cold. Maybe a quarter turn at the most. Others time maybe one blade width. And then it grinds. I can turn the engine complete revolutions by hand with a breaker bar. Just frustrating as the socket keeps falling off the crank bolt as...
Today's update.
I should have stated that both batteries are always on a NOCO dual bank trickle charger whenever parked.
Not much progress as I did not have much time. I measured each battery and they were both over 13 volts. Did a jump on each battery, at the same time on both, and tried to...
Yep, for the cylinders with unremarkable glow plugs, that was my plan.
But I don't understand one thing about a hydrolocked diesel I can turn the engine with a breaker bar on the crank multiple revolutions. It is not locked solid to the point I cannot turn it. So my question is if the valves...
Partial update as I spent several hours looking at things. So I did not expect and resolution and I was not disappointed :(
I removed the torque converter inspection plates, or whatever you call them, and I did NOT note any missing teeth on the flexplate. I did note some minor evidence of...
Yeah, I am kind of unsure what is going on. It will be a couple of days before I can look at it again. But to answer some questions about the starter girding :
I am kind of leaning to try to R&R the glow plug that I can. But one glow plug is frozen to the head, and another snapped off, so I...
I admit that I had the air intake tube off for a few days while I was (attempting) to service the AC and replace the condenser. I tried to be careful and put a plastic bag, rag and then a weight to hold them down on the manifold air opening, but obviously that was stupid on my part and maybe...
Except that I have two glow plugs broken off, one in each bank. I guess I could try to remove the others or how hard is it to pull the injectors? I guess I could try first pulling the three glow plugs on the driver's side that are not broken off and see if I get lucky. Probably will break off...
Same here. That is why at first I thought I was going to be dropping the tranny (again) to replace the flexplate. When I converted from a TH400 to a 4L80 I replaced the flexplate (and new starter and old one rebuilt) as I saw it was missing teeth.
Exactly! It seems that on every revolution of...
I'll try to make a long story short.
I had a Freon leak so I needed to replace the condenser and recharge. I got the new condenser plumbed in but I still have to fab up some new brackets as the replacement was just a bit wider than the original for some reason. I wanted to charge the system...
I am totally bummed out. Maybe time to take a vacation from being an amateur, terrible, MMMWV mechanic.
Tried to fix the AC, again. Installed a new condenser and the replacement was slightly larger than the origininal for some reason. So a PITA to build new mounts. Got discouraged, so I left...
This is the first I have heard of this.
I bought two EXPENSIVE sets, from two different well respected vendors recommended on this forum. I forget which vendor the first set came from but the second set was from HPG, and both came in little plastic bags. No boxes. No NSN numbers. They looked...
I replaced my belts yesterday and I was going to buy another set to have on hand. The PS and Generator sets are easy. But I have an aftermarket AC kit installed.
The AC belt that came in the kit is marked "15440", no manufacturer printed on it. The instructions state included was a belt "7440"...
Well I hate to create posts like this, but I'll admit I'm an old poop and really slow and do dumb things.
The Florida inferno abated, and with temps in the 70's I decided it was time to check the belts. Yeah, I changed them all three years ago when I first received the HMMWV, but two looked...
