    Dark Seas M1008 Project

Great to hear you have it mobile again. If replacing the washer fluid reservoir, you may want to look at one with the built in pump? Pretty easy to extend the wires and hose and it would open up more options for replacing the wiper motor when that time comes. I would be dropping the pan on the...

    Turn Signal lever is broke

Does anything happen? blown bulbs and bad grounds can quickly cause signal issues on these old trucks.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I run the M55's on my '08 2500. They are the (33") 285/75/16's and are snug. Awesome tires. Same bolt pattern as on the '86. Will use them for clearance checks on the M1008. Would like to be able to go to a 35" to help with rpm's at highway speeds. Should give me a good idea of what I may need...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Nice! Mine is actually a 300hp Mercruiser I built a couple years ago for the ocean boat. Was just sitting on a stand. It has their Thunderbolt 5 ignition system with full knock control. Will just be for break in and to get the truck inspected and registered. Should give me a good idea of what I...

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

I have power to everything now in my '86 M1008. The diesel stuff is removed. When I initially key on, the fasten belt and low coolant lights come on along with the buzzer for 3-4 seconds and all go out and return to normal. Unplugging the coolant sensor trips it's light but not buzzer. Have not...

    CUCV approach and departure angle?

Wow. Looks more than that with those tires. Thanks Spent a couple hours going through your build link last night. Will finish tonight. Nice work. Will be using some of your ideas when I get to that chapter with mine.

    CUCV approach and departure angle?

@Sharecropper how far forward did you move your front axel?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

A few small bugs to work out yet, but have fire under the hood again after a 19 year powerplant void sitting in storage. Feels like it just wants to go when the shifter is dropped.

    '86 M1008 info

Registration No's do match. It is clearly a 1 and not an I on the stamped door post tag. Looking closer at the TP number, it appears TP45 was painted over TP-45. Thanks guys!

    '86 M1008 info

As most may already know, I picked up my project truck a year ago, which a previous owner had removed the engine and radiator from. Having invested several hundred hours to date, it has really started to grow into part of the family with me. My question is, does any of the numbers I am coming...

A couple of questions about power.

I don't think adding warm air from the engine compartment will gain you anything more than dB's. Cool air is required for better combustion.

    Wiring

Sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about with a dog head mod and lawn mower solenoid?

    Wiring

That looks to be the start relay. The 2 smaller ones that were mounted next to it were gen 2 and volt gauge. The small black wire (16ga) is the ground first referenced by WWRD99 and the one I am interrupting along with the ground for a fuel pump relay (w/ same switch) which I added. My truck now...

    Brake/marker lights don't work

Bulbs are cheap. I just replaced them all when going through mine. Any pigtails with a rough looking pin as well. The only place I ran into mismatched bulbs was in the gauge cluster. It had a 24v bulb for the gen 2 light.

    Drag Link Part Numbers

I replaced the both the drag link ends with Moog just because the rubber boots were badly cracked and they had lost their sealing capability. Our local parts store had them complete in stock for not much more than just the boots themselves. You can also look almost everything up and order online...

    Wiring

Yes. Pretty much any on/of switch will work. The black wire carries 1 amp or there about. Regardless, it won't be thrown while energized anyway.

    Wiring

The ground for the relay (black wire) goes into the harness. You just have to interrupt it with an on off toggle. Moving the toggle (extend the wire) to the other side of ash tray hides it from anyone looking up under the dash. Looked like a good spot to me that could still be reached from the...

    Wiring

I'm going to do the same with mine. There is a nice size void between the ashtray and glove box. If you remove the glove box, it will give you good access to mount a toggle to interrupt the start relay. Position the toggle so you can reach up from the underneath is what I was thinking.

    Chinese Aux Diesel Heater

I have a similar unit in our ocean boat. It's on it's 3rd season now and runs off of the cabin batteries. Don't forget a CO detector for peace of mind. Ours has never registered anything with it running.

    Suppressors

Thanks and yes! Didn't realize that until a couple days ago but didn't turn back. Was actually looking for a cluster with the large tach and small fuel but was unable to find one. Anyway, it should be all good to go now. Will be powering it up this weekend for testing, Was also surprised to...
