I don't drive 55. 45 mph is fast enough for me and I like my 10 Titan NDT tires all at 50 psi. Nobody bothers the "King of the Road" going 45 mph. It's good to be the King :driver: 50 mile round trip with a load of fire wood has been my longest trip. That was long enough. Lots of short...
Heaviest load for me to date is this two cords of maple firewood. I think I seated the rings with this load. Didn't even crack the paint on the leaf springs and rode like a Caddy 8-)
one cord is 128 cubic feet 8(4x4) A level load in my 5 ton is 294 cubic feet so I figure a freakin' heapin' load might be close to 3 cord, probably less once stacked. The ride was nice and smooth with a load and the Cummins had enough power but definitely had to do some downshifting up the hills.
Thanks for the compliments on the truck. It is a good one according to test results of the oil sample I sent to Blackstone. I need to install a dump kit now that my son has moved to California.
I think I have about three cord of firewood loaded on this beast. I drove it from Cornish, NH to Hartland, VT. The Cummins running great all the way. Thought you all might like to see some pictures of the truck.
I ordered 4 gallons of Gillespie "383" from AJP $180 delivered to VT
$45 per gallon is not bad considering the cost of paint these days and I buy a lot of paint:-D
It got up to almost 40F today so I installed and hooked up the coolant filter assembly. I mounted it on the right inside fender. I'm plumbed into the 5/8 hoses of my heater. First I ran one hose to the filter assembly intake off the coolant manifold returning to the oil cooler then took a test...
When I got my M813A1 it had PM tags for '06 and '08 coolant changes and when I checked the coolant it was a rusty brown color. I flushed the crap out of the system and used Navistar heavy duty antifreeze mixed with distilled water 50/50 and DCA 4 additive. I premixed prior to adding to coolant...
It appears that the hose going to the oil cooler is a return line, according to the arrows in the photo. If that is the correct direction of the coolant flow, it really helps because I had no idea of the circulation direction. It makes sense that coolant would flow off the top ports of the...
jimk I have a question about the flow through the coolant filter. Question is which way does the coolant flow? From water pump to filter to manifold? Thanks
That is a slick looking install jimk, thanks for the picture with the coolant filter. I was looking for an upper engine compartment location but there are obviously many more options near the frame. My M813A1 wants a turbo, too. Other priorities before attempting a turbo upgrade right now. I...
Thanks jwaller, I am interested in ideas where you have installed your coolant filter.
With the fold down side, heater and low hood, not much room in there. Searched the forum and not found any information on where other members have placed theirs.

Hello Everyone,
First of all I want to thank you all for the offers of help with my 5 ton and especially Earth who was willing to drive down and lend a hand. I have searched the forum for information about coolant filters but have not found anything to help me locate the setup in the M809...
Eric and Bill dropped off my 5 Ton in Vermont before heading up to Maine. They were great guys to work with. I would recommend them. I only have my avatar and one picture in an album so far.
Thanks Ed,
We go to Lyndonville once in a while to visit relatives. I will be sure to let you know when we are up that way with the 5 ton so you can check it out.
