I picked up the winch during our weekend trip to Dallas and got it home earlier this evening.
Next week I'll tear into it for some maintenance and maybe a coat of paint (the last owner painted it blue)
then start trying to install it on the jeep
Earlier this week I spotted a Ramsey PTO winch (MX200R) with mounting cradle on marketplace just outside of Dallas.
I immediately I shot a buddy of mine some $$$ and asked him to scoop it for me (which he did).
I'm picking it up this weekend from my buddy in DFW (we live in Lubbock).
Last...
Over the weekend my neighborhood had a little parade and trunk-or-treat for the kiddos.
My family and I decorated up the M38A1 and brought it out for the event. I wired up an inverter to power some orange string lights, attached my blue-tooth tailgate speaker, and added some general Halloween...
Over the weekend my wife wanted to take the jeep out as it was a nice evening.
I ran out to check fluids and get it ready. I also installed the new temperature gauge which FINALLY arrived from KW. (they were back-ordered for over a year).
The temperature gauge worked great and the family had a...
Over the weekend we all piled in the jeep for a nice evening drive around the neighborhood.
I had to reinstall the upper distributor housing (replaced that interior black cap with a non-damaged one) but it fired off w/out any major issues and ran as well as it has been....not great but okay...
Thanks for the tips, y'all. I can't go too crazy with the heat since the frame is aluminum
I'm going to keep working it with heat cycles in hopes it I can get it soft enough to drill.....just need to grab some cobalt drill bits now.
I've been tinkering the jeep and it's finally at a place where I can (somewhat) focus on the accessories.
My next goal is to get my PTO Winch setup installed.
Earlier today before work I had some free time to install a dual battery monitor I had sitting around and then mess with my winch & PTOs...
I routinely charge both batteries (on my M38a1 and on my M35A2 when I still had it) with a 24v battery tender.
I've never had any issues with battery imbalances.
this is the model I use:
yes sir, those are the sections of insulation. They are sandwiched between the building framing and the outer skin. I wanted some kind of insulation to help keep out some heat in the summer and keep in heat in the winter.
Over the weekend the family went to a local car show here in Lubbock...
that pointless system is NICE. It's an upgrade I'm going to do on mine once I get it running right. They are dead reliable from all the reviews I see online.
I've been out of town for about a month so my jeep work had been on hold.
Well I'm finally back in town and was able to get some work and driving time on the jeep.
First I tackled a few jobs I've had pending for my shop.
I've been using a folding table as a makeshift workbench...it worked...
Got some more work and driving done today. I had plans on installing some parts I had coming in from Kaiser Willys but thanks to fedex it's delayed.....so thanks for that, fedex.
Earlier today I knocked out a few to-do things I had pending while waiting for my package to arrive. I started by...
Thanks! He loves the jeep. He is 1.5yr old so can't quite say "Willys" just yet so he calls it "lilly".
Jeep was an ex-army jeep. After it was sold by the gov't, it was used as a brush truck by our local VFD (back in the 80s). They eventually sold it to a farmer who used it as a toy until...
