    Transmission Leak....

My leak is definitely the transmission not engine oil.

    Transmission Leak....

Not engine oil. Just changed the tranny oil with the proper oil as listed earlier in this thread. My best option right now is "don't drive on the highway for extended periods". So that is my plan. For now.

    Transmission Leak....

Thanks for the info. In my case, I don't have a leak when the truck is sitting still, or even when it has been run for a moderate amount of time. Only after it has been run at highway speeds for an extended period (over 20 miles). So, I would not expect the bolts to be leaking...

    Transmission Leak....

I took my truck out last weekend and ran some errands. Probably about 20 miles or so. All on local roads in traffic. I had no leak. But I am still concerned what it will do when I get it on the highway and run high speeds. Just makes no sense, seems it should leak all the time. Not just...

    Heater

I pulled a separate fused wire directly from the batteries, so not to molest any of the original factory wiring.

    Heater

The only reason you would connect a ground to the switch would be if it was a lighted switch. Otherwise there should only be 3 wires, the center pole is for 12V+ the other two are the outputs. One goes directly to the fan motor, the other goes thru the resistor and to the fan motor. I tied...

    Alternator Crashed

    Good, Thanks for the replies.

    Alternator Crashed

Because you stated that your alternator(s) started charging immediately when you start your engine, but you stated earlier that it would take current from the batteries to start the field. So my question was, if you had dead batteries how would you get current to your exciter to start the...

    Alternator Crashed

There is no alternator made that will charge "stone dead" batteries. Not sure what your point is here?

    Alternator Crashed

    With dead batteries?

    Alternator Crashed

I got my rebuilt alternator installed tonight...when I tried to start the truck, the batteries were dead. So I jumped it and got it started. The gauge showed it was charging as soon as it started. My other one would take a couple seconds.

    Alternator Crashed

Because the guy that built it....told me so. He has been in business for over 30 years.

    Alternator Crashed

Agreed, but it takes less voltage than the two wire exciter to start the field.

    Alternator Crashed

Yeah, this old guy has been in the business for many years. He knew exactly what it was when I dropped it off. Took him about a week. I have not installed it yet...but it should work fine as he tested it before I got it back. The cool thing is I don't need the exciter wire any longer, so if the...

    Alternator Crashed

I went the used route when mine died, it lasted 2 days and died also. So I found a local guy to rebuild my original one. $125 and it is now a one wire alternator. No longer need the exciter wire.
