Recently got back into 20MM and re-barreling my Lahti M39 to the 20MM Hispano barrel. Working to get it completed and looking for the dies and shell holder for the Hispano 20 x 110 case. These are usually refered to as the M21A1 20MM,in use by the US Navy from the mid-30's all thru WW2,Korea and...
My thanks to Mike for his superlative 'puter magic...!! His offer to assist me in showing folks what a WW1 Machine Gun Cart Co. looked like is probably the first time in over 85+-yrs they have been seen. Thank you again,Mike.
Gentlemen....been awhile since I've posted anything on STEELSOLDIERS. It's a trying time during this covid-19 thing and have limited time to do anything else at my reloading business. However...was able to assemble an entire U.S. Army WW1 1917 Machine Gun Cart Co. for a photo shoot in late Nov...
Be there with probably the oldest 'vehicles' on display....the last animal drawn conveyance used by the US Military. The WW1 1917 Machine Gun Cart series of carts...gun cart, ammo cart and spare gun cart. Along with a group of issue equipment and vintage pic's of the carts and the water-cooled...
Cannot find any mention of the 16-17 May Elkhart,IN Airport Rally. This is a WW2 reenactment and Armed Forces Memorial. I will be representing US WW1 with 3-1917 Machine Gun carts. 'Kinda late with the info...but thought someone else would have mentioned it as there will be at least 2-tanks and...
Can't take the credit for the restoration. Previous owner did most all of it except leaving the rear armor off to work on the mount. Not sure how many M16's are around. Might have to ask the guys on G503 site. I'm up to my eyeballs in snow and -0 deg temps. No inclination to work on this stuff...
Great rally...!!! Too bad more folks did not show up,as the weather was absolutely perfect...72-80 deg. Thur-Sat. Over 50-vehicles,many vendor's and lots of time to get info and share ideas. Gentleman with restored M3 Half-Track was giving rides and wide smiles to many folks. Forgot my...
Thought this item did not exist,as no one had ever seen one before. There is no documentation that there was a separate brass tag for the Spare Gun cart. It was assumed that the spare gun cart was simply tagged as a gun cart. Even the experts had never heard of this tag before...until it...
Hope to see you'se guys there. I'll have 3-1917 WW1 Army Machine gun carts on display along with many pieces of issued period equipment. Also several reprints of manuals and a small collection of WW1 and WW2 pick/mattox sets with original carriers and such for sale or trade.
...can tell JD was excited because the pic's are blurry....LOL. Might not forget my camera tomorrow and try to send some more pic's of the indoor area. There are LOTS or armor and vehicles outside...but who wants to walk around in the hot sun and 90+ deg weather...? Yes...it's a well attended...
Friday evening sounds good to me....about 6-ish...? Might be a bit 'warm' for an outdoors get-together....have it inside...? Getting old and air-conditioning feels better past 85 deg....LOL...
1917 Machine Gun Carts...
This will be my first National MVPA meet. There will be a WW1 set-up..thanks to Kevin, the KY MVPA gentleman...and 3-1917 Machine Gun Carts will be displayed, hopefully next to some other WW1 stuff like a uniform display or such. I hope to meet several of our MVPA...
In honor of the 70th anniversery of the 1944 D-Day at Normandy,France and the 100th anniversery of the start of WW1,our local Military Museum has devoted the entire floor space to these two great events. I was asked to present my 3-1917 Machine Gun Carts for this display,as well as many pieces...
Update:Have sold the original 1917 Machine Gun Cart-in-the-crate to the collector/owner of handcartz.com. Sold my 2nd. gun cart to a gentleman who is a re-enactor at Newville,PA for WW1. He will put it to good use. Selling price was $2,500.00 for this gun cart with no accessories and set up...
For those who have not seen a WW1 Machine Gun Cart,Ammunition Cart or the only Spare Gun Cart in private hands....they will be at the MVPA rally at Ropke's Armor museum in Crawfordsville,IN this Fri-Sat.
Since these 1917 Army carts are so rare....believe less than 200-carts in existence...the only real test of value is the open market. Have only seen 2-examples of original carts...from a museum...in a 2001 article from Small Arms Review. Most carts, when found, have been stripped of all boxes and...
Thank you to all for great comments and esp. the segment on where/how a lot of Southern pine came north to Chicago. Realize that these pieces of military history are rare...but to conserve them...not 'restore' them...to their original granduer and display them as 'issued' is my goal. To do...
Thought about posting to my original thread on the 1917 carts...but this is such an historic find that I believe it deserves it's own thread. Recovered 3-original 1917 carts from Hernando,MS area last week...1400 mi. round trip. 2-carts in the ORIGINAL SHIPPING CRATES,as they left the...
