I did not price the Buttons. Try Heather at Ambac and see if they even have them then you'll at least have a price comparison. What's crazy to me is the shipping cost most seem to be charging for something can fit into a standard envelope with a $0.73 cent stamp.
I've also seen recently seen...
Ran it again this morning for a little over an hour and Shutters opened as they should. Temp at the Shutter Box Shutters and various spots on the Block ranged from 134°-143.5° once everything came up to temp. I think all is good...Okay, at least it is with my Gen Set...
THANKS EVERYONE...
Plunger Guide-$37.08
Gasket Rebuild Kit (KT85166)-$89.00
Shipping-$20.03
Total- $146.11
I did call Ambac (spoke to Heather) they had these parts available but were more expensive by about $20+. Didn't ask about shipping cost. Heather did say "we" can still buy directly from them any parts...
Success!!! Finally stopped raining here so I was able to get the reassembled IP installed along with adding new Glow Plugs that I found on eBay for $17 each, bought 6 of them. I primed and bled fuel system and what do you know...it fired right up!!!
I let it run for about 45 mins and it ran...
Sorry, I hadn't made it to the "Reassembly" section until after your Post; I then read it and it is explained very well (read the Manual, read the Manual...).
I do have two follow up questions:
Paragraph 4 and Figure 6A shows and explains the proper orientation of the Metering Sleeve being...
So today, following the "Ambac 50 Service Instructions" I disassemble the IP and put it in the mounting fixture that I fab'd. Here are some Pic's and a few questions:
Control unit:
Had some staining but overall looked good.
Delivery Valve:
After removal I saw some debris at the bottom but...
Should I try to get the Copper Ring and Disc out? Or just leave them and clean the surface of the Disc the best I can; from the looks of the corrosion, I think it may be a quite a chore to get them out. Fiber washers already ordered direct from Cummins, $6 each and no gouging on the shipping...
So, here's what I got done today along with some Pic's and a couple of questions:
First look at IP.
First look at Injector Nozzles.
Nozzle holders.
Cam lobe position. Three shims...not just one, this normal?
Nozzles lightly cleaned with some Diesel. I don't see items 7, 8 or...
Okay...short version; Found the "PC" mark and its hash mark, turned the flywheel so the timing pointer was on the "PC" hashmark, 1/8" bit moves freely in and out of the IP's timing port and alignment hole of the face gear...Done. Ready to remove...YES??
Longer version:
I put an 1/8" bit into...
It's funny, what you described is what I woke up this morning thinking about as one method of confirming where the PC mark is or should be...I was going to run it by you guys today, but you beat me to the punch...I will give this a try today.
The other method I was thinking about was to use the...
Today, I went to start pulling the IP out but immediately ran into in issue. I pulled the rocker arm cover to set the #1 Cylinder on the compression stroke. I turned the flywheel, via the blower nut, clockwise until I felt the two Cylinder 1's rockers were in the same position and looked in the...
Oh Geez...I just now saw the "Expand" button on this Post and for the first time viewed your responses to my questions which will definitely help.
I haven't received the Pic of the Cam Lobe Orientation as of yet; just sent you a PM.
You're absolutely correct about over thinking it. Sitting at the computer and reading everything is not the same as putting what I've read and what you guys have told me into practice. I think once at the Gen Set, doing it, it will probably become crystal clear...
The next 2 weeks for me are...
I'm not really understanding what this phrase means; "Be sure you are on compression of cyl 1", I not getting the mechanics of what I need to do to. I assume its turning the Flywheel into a curtain position but then, how do I know when when I'm have it in the right position to avoid the "180...
Here’s my plan:
1. IP: remove, disassemble, clean, inspect, reassemble and reinstall.
2. Injectors: remove, see if a local diesel shop can inspect, clean, and test them then reinstall.
3. Remove and replace Glow Plus and Manifold Heaters as a preventative measure.
Questions:
Can I /Should...
With the dreaded anticipation of tearing into the IP I have spent the last few days reading through Threads and Posts here on SS related to the IP (Ambac 50), its removal, disassemble, cleaning, reassemble and install; I’m sure I did not read them all but I did read a LOT…I also read, then...
