Hastings in NY makes all sizes of engine piston rings. I believe they still sell direct. Get accurate measurements (original bore diameter, ring thickness, type of ring(s) needed) of your rings and call or e-mail them. I'm sure they can help.

While not a permanent solution, I just got a no-contact optical rpm meter from Harbor Freight. Stick a little piece of reflector tape on the front pulley and point the gun at it. Works good for all kinds of things.

Oil filters are big by-pass filters from Hastings (LF103) or WIX (51021). Strongly suggest using 15w-40 diesel/gas rated oil, TSC has Rotella or their own store brand on sale all the time. Takes at least 22 quarts so buy 5 gallons in a pail and two one gallon jugs for topping off and oil use...

Did the fuel oil flush on the water truck due to the fact that the original oil looked and acted like asphalt when we drained it. Had to pry a hole in the tar on the bottom to get it to flow. Sprags also were sticking and causing much noise and shock to the truck due to the old oil. Just...

Suggest that you take the pump to a good local diesel pump rebuilder. Should be able to fix any problems with the pump is they are any good at all.

Got to watch the rpms on the little military engines, no direct oil pressure to the rod bearings just splash like a B&S. I would not run one higher than 4,000 rpm. This is why they hav'nt caught on for ultra light aircraft.

Our 5 ton Mack powered tractor had been updated prior to us buying it. It appears that they reused the pump and tank from the old system and added the steering box, column and two cylinders from the 800 series trucks. If you had an old 800 truck for parts it should not be too hard to do.

Got to e-bay and run a search for "4a032" or "4a084". There are starters on there all the time for between $50 to $150.

This last weekend, the PE-150 engine started after 20 years of storage. Sounds great with just a straight 3" stack and no muffler. Needs a carb kit and some additional tuning but it did start and run. Any ideas for where we could get a TM on the web?

There are a couple of guys in the Nashua/Milford area here in NH that have installed 3-53 Detroits in M-37s, using GamaGoat engines and 5 speed OD duece transmissions. I know one of them is a daily driver. Sorry, don't have their names.

Grega: Would like to see a photo of the brass float when you fix the other gen set. Didn't know that these "std" engines came with a metal float, have only seen and hear about the foam ones.
