I can "vouch" for the flat palm technique...!!!
My dryer was leaking and I could not build up air pressure to release the spring brakes (gauges "stuck" at 30 psi and would not build pressure)...
Searched for leaks and found the dryer leaking. I put my palm over the air leak and after it built...
So, I started my 1986 M925A0 after a 4 year "nap" (had to slave it off from my M1031 CUCV truck - bad batteries...).
Have my M1082 trailer sold, so hitched up to pressure wash it and my 5 ton.
Upon pressure washing the 5 ton, I notice several areas of peeling paint under the bed (outside CARC...

Tell Steve Mike in TN sent you...
I did the same - went the "other" direction to "original" (though chevymike is going to have a nice, personalized camper when he's done...)...
That said, mine was missing pads and a couple of "ceiling" litters, brackets, straps, etc. I bought the contents of a M1010 box from John at Hillbilly...
Yes Buck69 - there's always an interest in CUCV electrical parts here...
Take some photos and list your 24v items in "Pay it Forward" and "Parts for Sale"
If you can remove the 24v wires without cutting them, you be loved "extra"...lol...
My bad on vehicle, good catch Tinstar!
No issues with my Silverstars, but yes - depending on the headlight wiring condition, H4s may be too much of a load on stock wiring...
Use a 1984 K-5 Blazer search within Rock Auto to help with part numbers.
I used halogen Silvania Silverstar headlights on mine - obviously not as bright as projector headlights, but made a big difference from what my M1009 came with...
Also, consider headlight adjustment - maybe your lights...
Good point and another way to "skin the cat"...
I lieu of that, next time I'll stuff cotton balls or paper towel in the bottom of the pre-chamber and carefully extract the broken tip...
I really did not believe that tip fell in the cylinder - one in a million and I should start playing the...
You just proved that an engine can "survive" if the tip breaks off while running - my case was different with the engine "off"...
I was able to pull out the other six with lube and vice grips like you did, just those two would not come out... (even removed the firewall side battery tray to get...
That "red" head gasket was from before I acquired the M1009.
I used a Fel-Pro head gasket 8726PT.
I read the same about an "already running" diesel "spitting out" a glow plug tip (not from here), but I was afraid of bending a rod, cracking a piston, etc if I tried to start it - so it sucked...
So last month finally got to my 1986 M1009 "tan" I acquired from Illinois last year.
Bought it with the radiator stolen, all battery cables cut and stolen, batteries stolen and a few broke out windows.
Get it rewired and was hard to start, but started after years of sitting in the PO's lot.
I...
I followed royalflush55's advice and found a place that sells the American made 552 flashers for $2.71 ea. + $8.65 ship and no tax.
I bought 20x so got them a little cheaper...

On one of my M1008s, the turn signal...
I'll hold out a bit longer to see if he replies (sent 2 emails)...
I did google search his name and others indicated he was the "go-to" guy for radio stuff, but those were old posts...
Thanks for the reply foxmike!
I sent two emails to surplus@pvtjarhead.com to buy some RT 524 parts and questions about his "display" and nearly complete RT 524 radios and have not received a reply yet...
I read that his buddy and RT 524 "expert" passed away recently.
Does anyone know what his status is?
Thanks for any info.
Hey ssdvc,
Did you install that radiator yet? How did it fit? - Disregard this question, I found your "new" thread on the radiator install...
I bought a 1986 M1009 that is missing the radiator (stolen) and on the search for a replacement.
I agree on a youngster taking over (they are our "future").
Unfortunately, Gary had no children reading his obituary and tribute.
As I told his wife how saddened I am, but also angry that "evil" people seem to never die and "good" people like Gary are taken early...
All,
I just found out (today) from Gary's wife Jane that Gary passed away last Nov 30, 2020 from a battle with cancer.
I knew Gary outside of Steel Soldiers and he was truly a nice guy and an "expert" on all military commo from the 70's and 80's...
She wrote me that they are closed and have...
Well, put some time in on the 1010...
Vacuumed interior, box and engine compartment. The Sheriff Dept stored several plastic banners that disintegrated from the heat, so it took forever to vacuum out the debris. Found a 1 quart canteen behind the driver seat! Thought I'd find all kinds of nuts...
