Ropes go down on angles, about 3-4 feet away from base of tent. It is in the instruction manual. Do you have one? OMG Love the Video shows what a bitch these things are. :)

I would truck it home. There is alot that can go wrong rushing things, and road tripping with an untested and unfamilar vehicle. The extra shipping costs are minimal compared to what could go wrong. Do it right.
